Brady, Rodgers, Brees 4x, Manning. Ben would be the 5th.

EDIT: Actually Rodgers has never done it, so Ben would be the 4th.

EDIT 2: Add Matt Stafford to the list. Should just check pro-football-reference.com LOL

Kansas City is going to be tough to throw on, also right now Cincy is playing better on the road so it is going to be tough

Marino did it back when it actually meant something. Stafford has done it as well.

Rodgers has never had 5,000 yards in a season, but Marino has had 5,000 yards in 1984...Same for Stafford in 2011

    Yes, I realize that now.

Just think about how many yards a prime Marino would throw for today. He threw for 5,000 yards back when teams were still allowed to play tough, physical defense.

I really hope that he gets it. Will just add to his resume for the Hall. Would rather see a fourth Super Bowl appearance and third ring added...

I think the fact that Stafford threw for 5,000 yards pretty much illegitimizes and reduces the accomplishment

    Ya. I was thinking Marino.

That is especially amazing for his era.

...and is Brees x4 THAT good or was his offense incredibly loaded?

It's nice to see Ben finally have an offensive line AND great weapons.

    Not much time left....

For Brees it is a bit of both. offense was loaded with talented playmakers - many with spectacular run after the catch skills. But, other QBs in this era have had that and none have gone over 5K multiple times. Brees is extremely talented and gets lost in the Manning/Brady debate - he should be up there as well.

Mostly Drew. None of his targets in NOLA will ever enter the Hall of Fame without a ticket. Plus when I was in graduate school, my weekly football pool often used "How many passing yards will Purdue quarterback Drew Brees have?" as a tiebreaker.

Imagine if this offense had been utilized to its potential early in the season. Ben would looking at 6000 passing yards.

I know that kind of statement is not entirely fair since Bryant probably didn't have the offense completely figured out early on and the line needed some time to gel. On the other hand it isn't my job to be fair. I'm a fan.

Marino's 84 season would translate today to something along the lines of 60 td's and 6,500 yards. Easily on the yards in fact. Maybe even 7000.

Jimmy Graham will be in the HOF if he continues to play the way he currently is.

Drew's 1st 5,000 yard season was in 2008. Though rules were sliding in favor of offense back then, the rules didn't turn into flag football level til 2011. Comparison, Kurt Warner was 2md with 4,583 yards, only 6 players had 4,000 yards passing (compared to an average of 10 the last 3 years), and only 3 of which passed for more than 4,100 yards

Not really. It's not like Stafford is a slouch. He's pretty decent. There's a lot worse out there...a lot worse.

The chiefs have not given once 300 yards to a QB this year and they played against Peyton Manning(2 times), Brady and Rivers

It'll be a challenge for Ben

Mainly because their run defense has been awful. QB's haven't had to lean on the passing game.

The chiefs gave 5.3 yards per pass, which is the best in the NFL

Well, he dropped 350 on the Bungles in their last game, so it's doable. But I predict he falls just short.

I think if we go up early on the Bengals they will fold up like a cheap suit. Ben doesn't get the 5,000 this year.

Today was a game that goes to my point that big passing yardage totals aren't necessarily relevant to winning. I've got nothing against Ben racking up big numbers. But same token a cooly efficient 220 yards probably speaks to a more balanced team effort. And that's what we're going to need more of to keep advancing to the next level. Or at least having the ability to grind out an efficient win speaks to a team coming together the right way at the right time.

In a normal game, a team has 10-12 drives in a game

Today, the Steelers only had 6 drives(with only 50-55 plays)......With more drives and more plays, Ben would have had at least 300 yards

True enough. The Chiefs were converting 3rd downs all game, so yeah it did keep our offense off the field to a large extent.

Yeah, the problem was that for a lot of the game, our defense was as porous as ever, except Alex Smith can't throw further than 10 yards. So instead of the usual 5-play, 80-yard drive in 1:30 for a touchdown, it was 12-play, 75-yard drives in 7:00 for a field goal. I guess we kind of did the same thing, only with a couple of touchdowns mixed in.

Anyway, possible that he gets it next week, flip a coin.

He currently sits at over 4,600 yards for the season. In hindsight, the fact that we're in the playoffs with the chance to win the division is just fine with me, 5,000 yards or not.
