    Re: FIRE MIKE TOMLIN!!

I do realize that 17 is close to twice as many as 10. I ask again what the stat means? With no context or basis for comparison it is one step above gibberish.

Is 17 games under 20 points or less in 2013-2014 more or less than the league average? How much more or less? Why 20 points? Does scoring 3 Tds or more correlate strongly with winning? What was the opposition in the low scoring games? Not scoring 20 points against a top 5 defense is a far different thing than not scoring 20 against a terrible defense.

There is potential an interesting thing there but on its own I'm not certain it means anything.

Tomlin shouldn't be fired. The mess that Tomlin has wasn't created by him.

I think we should create the thread and crash can take it over there. I hate to see this iconic thread get locked because of him.

Tomlin was 60-28 before Art II fired his OC.

Tomlin needs to work on clock management. That's the one weakness he has.

Oddly enough around the same time and since then the roster also either lost or saw father time degrade the level of play of the following:

Lamar Woodley - hurt and fat
    James Harrison
    James Farrior
    Ike Taylor
    Ryan Clark
    Troy Polamalu
    Aaron Smith
    Casey Hampton
    Brett Kiesel

That is 9 out of 11 spots on a defense.

But it is highly doubtful that the turnover of around 80% of a championship caliber defense had any impact on the post 2011 won-loss record.

But wasn't the defense "ranked" #1 in 2012?

Surly that meant they were GOOD, right?

Never made that argument. And, again, you have failed to address the central point. The loss of multiple All-Pro talents, 1-2 HOF level talents, and host of other championship caliber players on the defensive unit had more to do with the decline in Tomlin and the Steelers won-loss record then the firing or hiring of any OC.

Why don't you address the drop off in rushing ranks from 2011 to 2012? You see that happens, when every run is up the middle and you line your back 9 yards behind the LOS on 3rd and 4th and 1.

Couldn't be that the starting RB missed 10 games...lol.

Okay. That is easy. Went from a healthy Mendenhall who rushed for 4.1 per carry and almost 1,000 yards to Jonathan Dwyer. Who kinda sucked. Because he got fat.

No, it sucked because Haley's offense was all up the middle. You see as hard as it is for Haley to grasp? Teams DO watch this thing called FILM.

It never changed. Up the middle all day. He also used to rotate his backs too much. Sometimes after every play.

Washington, Giants, Cincy games, three straight weeks, three backs over 100.

Because injuries once again stopped the inane substitutions, and he had to stick with mostly one guy which allowed that back to get into a rhythm.

Too much up the middle...yet three backs went over 100 yards in three weeks...lol.

And no constant subbing. Backs have to read the defense, backs can't get a feel when it's constant in and out.

Just like WR Sammie Coates, one of the first things Richard Mann said after we drafted him this year was "He had concentration problems because he was always yanked in and out of the game".

And I'm thinking, WTH did we draft him for? That's all Haley does.

So you admit that you are arguing a point and arguing against it in the same comment. Good work. Not many can do that...lol.

Funny how the Broncos are in the Super Bowl and they did nothing but rotate backs all season. So did the Chiefs, Seahawks, Bengals, Texans, Packers, Redskins, Cardinals...I think they were all playoff teams.

I would bet they didn't rotate by plays. He did the same thing in Kansas City with Charles and Jones. Drove that fan base nuts.

Like I said, get back to the BA/Whiz model, every 3rd series, Bell sits.

    Re: FIRE MIKE TOMLIN!!

So without going to deep into it:

Arians RB Carries in Super Bowl year 2008:

    G1 - W.Parker 25-138, R.Mendenhall 10-28, B.Roethlisberger 2-17, B.Leftwich 2-0
    G2 - W.Parker 28-105, S.Holmes 1-10, C.Davis 1-2, B.Roethlisberger 1-0
    G3 - W.Parker 13-20, B.Roethlisberger 4-6, M.Moore 1-6, C.Davis 1-1
    G4 - R.Mendenhall 9-30, C.Davis 8-15, M.Moore 8-13, N.Washington 1-8, B.Roethlisberger 2-3

    Haley RB Carries in 2014:

    G1 - L.Bell 21-109, B.Roethlisberger 2-8, L.Blount 4-6, D.Archer 1-4
    G2 - L.Bell 11-59, M.Wheaton 2-22, A.Brown 2-10, L.Blount 3-8
    G3 - L.Bell 21-147, L.Blount 10-118, B.Roethlisberger 1-1, B.Gradkowski 2-(-2)
    G4 - L.Bell 19-63, L.Blount 4-25, B.Roethlisberger 2-4, Wi.Johnson 1-0, M.Wheaton 1--7

Charles was just becoming the back that he is today and you can't argue that the combination of Jones/Charles wasn't effective...because they were. 2010 - 1467 yards and 896.

Mendenhall's first carry of his career came with 9:00 left in the 1st quarter, Steelers up 14-0.

His second carry was in the 3rd quarter, after four straight Parker runs, the score was 21-3.

Three of Mendenhall's carries, were in the 4th quarter when they were up 35-10.

Which is irrelevant. Same situation happened with Bell and Blount against the Panthers. It's how the flow of that type of NFL game goes. It's pretty basic.

Here is a good breakdown of why you put extra TE's and FBs on the field during "passing" plays. Steelers run a lot of run/pass option plays. I would argue the concept is sound, they could just find better players to execute it with besides Spaeth and Will Johnson. Hopefully Nix and Jesse James go towards improving these packages in 2016.

    Nix? LOL Don't need him.

Three wides, a RB, a TE, win the AFC.

    It's that easy.

To be completely correct, Art II did not fire BA. His contract was not renewed......and rumour has it, he would not have re-resigned.

    that's good to know.

we can now stop drafting defensive players and worrying about who plays on special teams.

just as long as we play three wides, a RB, and a TE we win the AFC...

Funny...the Broncos did it much differently...going with 12 personnel.

    According to who?

Tomlin told Arians he wanted him back.

Tomlin told his fellow assistants, Arians was coming back.

    Arians left for Georgia.

Tomlin calls Arians on the phone, Arians thought they were going to discuss a raise with his contract.

Tomlin told Arians they were making a change.

When Arians told his wife "they were fired", she thought he was joking.

He had no desire to leave Pittsburgh. None.
