Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay will spend one year on probation after pleading guilty to driving under the influence.

He has also been suspended six games by the NFL and fined $500,000, the maximum permitted under league rules, for violating the league's personal conduct policy.

This whole thing was a waste of time that was nothing more than an opportunity for posturing and chest-puffing by the league and the NFLPA in their never-ending pissing contest.

Can anyone explain what difference it makes if an owner is "suspended" for six games, or four games, or 10 games, or no games? So he can't hang out at the stadium, big whoop.

This was the biggest soft-pitch discliplinary case Goodell has ever seen, since any punishment is basically symbolic. Congratulations, you came up with something that leaves both you and the union looking tough. Golf clap.

I could see a six game suspension being effective is Isray was a Jerry Jones kind of owner. However, Isray is a guy that basically allows his football people to make football decisions, and only steps in to overrule on big decisions. Between now and week six, I don't see the Colts making any big moves. The draft is over, major free agency is over, and trades don't happen as much in the NFL on big-name players. I honestly think his football people made the trade for Trent Richardson last year, and it looked like a good idea at the time. Hell, it could still end up being a good idea.

So unless the Colts do something crazy stupid like trade Andrew Luck to the Texans for a first round pick, the Isray suspension doesn't mean much more than he watches the games from his mansion instead of the stadium.
