    Rams cut Michael Sam

    http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/11...-st-louis-rams

ESPN must be DEVASTATED by this news. Coming soon: 50 "in-depth investigations" about homophobia in professional sports, etc., etc.

Maybe this will even serve as the motivation for the launch of their new spinoff site, ESPNGay.

I'm sure some team who is down a defensive lineman will pick him up. Didn't San Francisco lose one of their DEs in preseason? That's almost too perfect.

Hear that? Those are the LBGT folks and liberals readying their guns to attack the NFL.

Even now Jeff Fisher is trying to run damage control in his press conference. But it's hopeless, here comes the lawsuits and the complaints. How dare the Rams not give a roster spot to Michael Sam? It can't be for football reasons! They must hate gay people! Little do they realize that their bellyaching will destroy Sam's chances of making it anywhere else in the NFL. Why not?

Michael Sam is absolute PR toxic for any organization that takes a chance on him. It has absolutely nothing to do with his orientation, it's the shit that comes with it. Too much of a distraction to be even worth taking. Some other schmuck team will take a chance on him, and the PR consequences that come with it.

He'll get picked up by another team. He had a very good preseason. The only reason that he didnt maje it is because the Rams are loaded on the DL.

He should start up the reality show again. Then call Jerry Jones and promise as big a media circus as possible. "Think of the ratings, Jerry!"

Sam - 11 tackles and 3 sacks in limited play.

Sam could have some success if a team that runs a 4-3 defense picks him up and grooms him a little more. He had a pretty good preseason.

Guy has no "up" side. He needs development as a DE or an OLB. He's especially strong on STs, which is where most developmental players make their money and he drags along an ESPN truck everywhere he goes. He would have a better chance if he took out a restraining order on the entire ESPN company, that an learning how to be a STs ace

    Re: Rams cut Michael Sam

I don't think that Sam has no upside. I doubt he's ever going to be a JJ Watt type of player, but I think he would fit very well as a DE in most systems. He can create some pressure and seems strong against the run. He's not going to be a double digit sack guy, but I think he could damn sure be a good rotational guy at the least. I mean last year in the SEC he was DPOY, First Team All-SEC, and a Unanimous All-American. He had 11.5 sacks and 19 TFL.

The biggest issue is the media circus that follows him, and that isn't his fault. From everything that I have read and heard about him, he just comes in and works hard. He doesn't ask for press conferences or interviews.

The Rams are stacked on the defensive line. His chances of making the team were slim to begin with. I think he can land somewhere, I know the CFL is interested.

Conservative Christians plan protest, boycott of Dallas Cowboys over Michael Sam signing

Right-wing Christians plan to protest the Dallas Cowboys signing of Michael Sam, the first openly gay NFL player.

The outside linebacker was cut last week by the St. Louis Rams, which had drafted him in the seventh round out of the University of Missouri, and picked up by the defense-starved Cowboys.

He will join the team’s practice squad if he passes a physical exam.

The move angered anti-LGBT Christians, who had threatened to boycott the Rams before Sam was released.

“We cannot just stand idly by as Christian values and morals are trampled,” said Jack Burkman, the GOP lobbyist working to keep Sam out of the NFL. “We will do whatever we can to preserve family values in this country.”

Burkman has drafted legislation barring gay players from the NFL, but his brother said his efforts were a publicity stunt to draw clients to his lobbying firm.

“I think the idea that he is pushing legislation that is just hurtful and ridiculous is just plain stupid,” said Jim Burkman, an anesthesiologist who is openly gay. “He is not a legislator and he can’t really push legislation. I don’t think there are any cosponsors for a bill. It is just an attention grab and a media grab to pander to those folks who pay him to lobby on their behalf.”

The conservative lobbyist claims his threatened boycott would have cost the Rams “tens of millions of dollars,” a fate he said now awaits Cowboys owner Jerry Jones.

“Jerry Jones has betrayed American values, Christian values, and his own city’s values,” Burkman said. “The people of Dallas – and Christians all across this land – are about to make him pay a huge financial price. The Cowboys are no longer America’s team.”

Fan reaction in Dallas has been mixed, reported KTVT-TV, with some recognizing the team’s defense needs all the help it can get, but others are uncomfortable rooting for a gay player.

“I don’t want my kids looking up to me and say, ‘Daddy, what does that mean that he’s gay?’” one fan said during a radio call-in show.

Demonstrators plan to gather outside AT&T Stadium to protest Sam’s signing.

So explain this to me, Christians. He's gay so he should not be allowed employment? Should he then be on government benefits because he's gay? Or should he starve because he's gay?

I am a christian , he does not follow my moral compass but he should not have to ... he is not me

that being said I believe everyone has a right to earn a living so again its not my " standards" keeping him from employment

however I do think it makes for a strange situation in a field where grown men are at times partially clothed or totally nude ( locker room , showers ) not everyone will be comfortable having him around and that is where the issue comes into play ....

he was not on my draft radar , I did not believe he was good enough for the next level as a 3 down player , but he does fill a need as a situational player and deserves work .... BUT back to the locker room situation , this poses a problem and perhaps moreso than many would be willing to publicly admit

Was there a problem in college? Is it less of a problem if you don't know about it because they are lying about who they are? If the problem is how you feel, you stay out of the shower

They should let him use the ladies shower to avoid any problems. Gay guys get weird because they think everybody is gay and do not hesitate to make aggressive moves. I got hit on by a few "dudes" and it was creepy. I can only imagine shower scenes where some dude thinks he has a right to say stuff about another guy's junk or worse, try to kiss somebody to make a political statement.

When I was growing up that behavior guaranteed that people would get their asses kicked and not celebrated for being different.
