Kubiak: Tate out for season, headed to I.R.

By Nick Scurfield

Coach Gary Kubiak announced after practice on Monday that rookie running back Ben Tate, who suffered a severe ankle injury in the Texans' preseason opener at Arizona, will be placed on the reserve/injured list and miss the entire 2010 season.

Tate will undergo surgery later this week.

"The surgery should be fine; he should be back playing next year," Kubiak said. "It's a big blow because we were counting on him a great deal. He's a good-looking young player, but he'll be back. He's a good kid. He'll be back."

Tate (5-11, 220) was injured in the third quarter on Saturday after running for a 12-yard gain and being tackled by Cardinals linebacker Darryl Washington. It was only the third touch of the game for the second-round pick (58th overall) out of Auburn, who was drafted higher than any running back in Texans history. (continued at link)
