RIP Coach Chuck "The Emperor" Noll. A very sad day.
Charles Henry Noll, who lifted the Steelers from the depths of the National Football League and coached them to four-time Super Bowl champions by adhering to simple, long-held principles, died Friday in his home in Sewickley.
Noll, who had been under a doctor's care for an undisclosed illness, was 82.
His wife, Marianne, found him unresponsive at 9:45 p.m. and called 911. Paramedics pronounced him dead 10 minutes later.

I honestly didn't know he lived in the Pittsburgh area - I thought he had moved to the Carolinas. At any rate, a sad day in Pittsburgh. RIP Emperor Chaz.

This is extremely sad. By far one of the greatest and most underrated coaches in NFL history. He did so much for the Steelers. Thank you for everything you did. Rest in peace.

Tough news to wake up to, but it reminds me of all the wonderful childhood memories he helped create. As a transplant to Miami, I was the only Steeler fan in my class in a sea of Dolphin diehards with a few Patriot and Cowboy wannabes. There was never a doubt who would win the Super Bowl in the 1970s when we showed up. Those Monday mornings going back to class were special.

Ironic that he dies Father's Day weekend. He can certainly be considered the father of Steelers football.....his teams are the standard that all Steelers teams will always measured against. RIP coach.

The Mastermind behind the Steelers are we know them and essentially the father of Steelers Football. Transformed the Steelers from losers into the greatest dynasty in the modern era.
There is no "Six Pack" or "One for the Thumb" without him winning FOUR. Any and all Steelers teams will be measured up against his fine work.

Rip, Coach. I think a fitting tribute by the current Steelers would be a "throwback" uniform that included a return to the 70's block numbers along with some sort of a patch remembering him.

By NFL rules, the Steelers can't switch to another throwback style until after the 2016 season. I bet they wear a patch along with the 40th anniversary superbowl commendatory patch they already decided to wear.
Uniform rules are so profoundly idiotic. Can they make it part of their regular uniform then?
