How would you prioritize our Draft strategy?

9 picks....how should we use them?

CB (we probably need to draft 2) we have 3 decent ones with Ike Taylor probably in his last year.
    C. Allen. Taylor. Wm Gay.
    Depth. McClain Blake. Green

DLine (we probably need 2) Our DLine looks alarming thin.
    Heyward. McLendon. Thomas.
Depth. Fangupo. Arnelt. N Williams. Keisel ?

How high you draft a WR depends on how you look at Wheaton. He was a 3 round guy last year.
    WR (need 1)
    Brown. Wheaton L. Moore.
    Depth. Heyward-Bey. Moye. JBrown. Coale.

Linebacker (need an inside, 3 down mack and 1 outside for depth)
    ILB. Timmons. V. Williams
    Depth. Spence. Garvin. Wilson
    OLB Worilds Jones.
    Depth Moats Carter

We do need some depth at RB and TE so maybe some mid to later round picks.
RB. (Need 1). Bell. Blount Stephens-Howling???

    TE Miller. Spaeth.
    Depth Paulson. Palmer.

We should be ok at QB, Safety, Fullback and OLine with a few Undrafted Free Agents signed right after the draft.
QB. (Set). Ben. Gradkowski. L Jones

    Safety (set). Polamalu. Mitchell.
    Depth. Thomas. Allen Golden

    FB (set). Will Johnson

    O-Line (set)
    T Beachum Gilbert. Adams.
    G. DeCastro. Foster. Whimper. Embernate. Hubbard. Velasco ??
    C. Pouncey. Wallace

So my Top 2 rounds are:
    CB. Hopefully Gilbert or Dennard
DE. Hopefully Hageman or Tuitt drops

The 97th and 118th pick could go either way for ILB and WR depending on who dropped.
ILB. Hopefully Borland drops or if not, then go Christian Jones in 4th and take a WR in 3rd
WR. Matthews or Richardson May drop into late 3rd or go Landry, Herron, Abrederis, or Huff in 4th

    5th, 6th 7th
    NT
    CB.
    RB
    OLB
    TE

    Your turn now......
    How do you prioritize them?

Re: How would you prioritize our Draft strategy?

Without being as specific, I would say we could immediately use help the most at CB, DE, WR, and ILB in that order. Although I am willing to leapfrog priority a bit if the talent is good enough. Ex: If mike evans is available at #15 i might take him even if gilbert/dennard are there.

Although after evaluating dennard again and again, i want dennard the most out of likely prospects if the team is willing to use a lot more man coverage than in the past.

I would put our draft priorities as CB/DE/WR/ILB/DT/O-line/OLB. I also think we will draft either a TE or safety and double dip at CB

These are the players that I think are value at our picks in each round

Round 1. CB Dennard, CB Gilbert, WR Evans...if they are off the board we could go CB Fuller, WR Beckham, WR Cooks
Round 2. DE Tuitt, WR Martavis Bryant, WR Donte Moncrief,LB Ryan Shazier, WR Jordan Matthews, CB Phillip Gaines (Yes, I think he is worth a second round pick)
Round 3. CB Jaylen Watkins, DT Justin Ellis, ILB Shayne Skov, TE C.J. Fiedorowicz, DE Kelcy Quarles
Round 4. CB Ross Cockrell, CB Walt Aikens, WR Cody Latimer, SS Ahmad Dixon
Round 5. DE Deandre Coleman, ILB Avery Williamson, WR Kevin Norwood, FS Dontae Johnson, OT Seantrel Henderson
Round 6. CB Bennett Jackson, DE Shamar Stephen, ILB Kevin Pierre-Louis, OLB Aaron Lynch, SS Brock Vereen, OT Justin Britt
Round 7. DE Lawrence Virgil, DE Brent Urban, SS Dezmen Southward, TE Jordan Najvar

pretty good list . I took Philip Gaines off my draft board though , nice size and ability but his off field choice of friends and some other issues I have been told about off the record make him not worthy of the risk for me

I did the same at one point, but then thought about us having been willing to take a chance on Mike Adams and LeGarrette Blount...If he can convince the FO that he has matured...his talent level warrants consideration

Strong Safety looks to be in play , Calvin Pryor , Deone Bucannon and Brock Vereen in for visits.

I think you're right....I like SS Brock Vereen and SS Dezmen Southward as late round picks.

Brock Vereen is 6'0 199 and ran a 4.47. He is a smart, high effort player that we could shelf for a year while he improved his fundamentals. Great work ethic and his position flexible, as he has played both safety positions and has played CB and nickel CB.

Dezmen Southward is 6'0 211 and ran a blistering 4.38. Didn't start playing football until his senior year in high school so his fundamentals are also pretty sloppy and will need to be coached up. With the right coaching, in a year or two you have a speed demon SS who loves contact, and has better than average instincts.

I know its a pipedream , but wonder what kind of value Packaging Troy to Move up from 15 could bring.

You know how that goes....few teams willing to take on a players "last" contract. Besides....we have no one on the roster that is even close to being able to play at his level

i dont understand where drafting a safety really early would come into play. We have troy and mitchell as our obvious top 2 safeties for sometime with shamarko being expected to succeed him and will allen being a very capable back up

I have a couple guidelines that I would follow. Draft defense in round 1. Make sure you come out of round 3 with a dl and cb. Make defense majority (not all) of picks

Interesting article by Alan Robinson in the Trib today

Despite many moves, Steelers' depth still a work in progress
