If Harrison wasnt playing so well the last few weeks Im damn sure Polanco would have already been up with us. Time to see if all the hype was worth it for Polanco.

The Bucs choke away a 4-run lead in the 9th against the Fish tonight, but Gregory Polanco saves the day with a 2-run HR in the 13th inning, capping a 5-hit night. That kid is going to be special.
I jumped off the couch and started yelling when he hit that ball, scared the shit outta my wife, haha. That kid is going to be fun to watch. With Marte coming back around, that's one deadly outfield we've got, can't think of a better one in the league.
bullpen really shit the bed last night, but I'll give them a pass, that rarely happens with those guys, just a bad night
Well they enjoyed shitting the bed last night so much that they did it again today, damn near blowing a 6-run lead in the 9th. What the fuck is up with these guys all of a sudden? They finally get some good starting pitching and offense, now they start crapping out. A win is a win, but they need to clean that shit up ASAP.
Bucs back at .500.
Nice rebound from the bad start to the season, and the gap in the division is starting to close.
It may be late to say this but...I hate the Brewers.
Yea, I don't know what the hell is up with them. Starting pitching and offense is on all cylinders and these fools keep making these games too close.
On another note, I'm actually excited to see how Vance the Vanimal does as a bucco. Jim Benedict has a knack for bringing pitchers back from the dead
If they win the 3 games against them that they blew saves in, they'd be a half-game out of first right now. Instead, they are 6 games back. Not being able to beat the Brew-roids might end up keeping them out of the playoffs altogether, much less cost them a shot at the division.
Bullpen shit the bed again, this time resulting in a loss
this shit is getting out of hand
Just not an impressive weekend even though they won the series. Should have been an easy sweep.
The bullpen sours it completely for me. As for Pedro, it's time to move him across the diamond. He is simply awful with his throwing, but he's a very good fielder. In fact, I think he's such a good fielder and athletic that I think he'd win a Gold Glove at 1st, and would only have to throw the ball when absolutely necessary. This coming off-season needs to be devoted to moving him to 1st, move Walker to 3rd and either play Harrison at 2nd or bring someone else in.
Wow. I didn't think they'd be able to get anything more than a wad of pre-chewed gum for Grilli. Nicely done, NH. Frieri's numbers aren't good, but maybe coming to the NL and working with St. Searage will get him righted again.
Frieri has some serious skills, he just needed a change of scenery IMO. This was a phenomenal trade
The Pirates trade Grilled Cheese for Fries.
They also win the series against the Mets today. 5-2.
So far, the NL Central looks like it'll send three teams to the postseason again. What a crazy good division.
I still don't think the Brewers are as good as they are playing. I can't see them keeping it up through the whole season....but yes, most likely going to be three in the postseason
Bucs win 5-1 and take the series against the D-Backs.
They also jumped over St. Louis and Cincy in the Division. 6 Games back of the Brewers.
I too also believe the Brewers aren't as good as their record shows. They got hot early, is all.
Bucs Sweep the Phils. The Hot play continues.
Six games over .500. 4.5 Games back of Milwaukee in the Central.
Crucial stretch coming up. Back to Back Road Trips to St. Louis and Cincinnati that will no doubt decide who stays where in the Central. Things are really getting interesting! Go Bucs!
It looks like I was wrong about the Pirates.Thankfully so. Hope they can keep it up!
"A man's got to know his limitations."
I've been screaming from the rooftops since the beginning of the season, nobody wanted to listen!! Our offensive lineup is crazy good, and you throw in a wild card like JayHay and you've got trouble for any pitcher out thre. Our pitching is coming around too, Volquez and The Vanimal are both turning out great, throw in Locke who is really coming into his own.....man, I'm one excited Buccos fan
I never gave up on them either, believe it or not. I always felt they were better than their record, that the talent was there even before Polanco's debut, but was just underperforming, especially their starting pitching and back-end of the bullpen except for Watson. And lo and behold, they have the best record in the NL since the beginning of May. And the Brewers are starting to falter - swept by the Blue Jays and then lost 2 of 3 to the Reds. I've had doubts that they were as good as their record...we'll see what happens from here on out.
Big, big road trip coming up in St. Louis and Cincy. I hope they can at least finish 3-4 and not lose much ground to the Brewers. However, the pitching matchups against the Cards are not in our favor.
Welp, cant say im not excited!
Should be a fun All Star break
Well, at least they didn't get swept by the Cards. What a disappointing series after having such a great homestand.
I think they're done after tonight. Can't win in division.
"A man's got to know his limitations."
Thats a voice of someone who doesn't watch much pirates baseball and relies on records, stats, and W/Ls
we lost tonight because of an All Star reliever who had a bad night, nothing more. The cards series hurt but is not insurmountable. This reds series just started, it's one game....
Yes, but they can't win the division if they can't beat teams in their division.
21-29 in the division
13-25 against the Reds, Cards and Brewers
27-16 against the rest of MLB
I think we can see the problem here. That said, with the Pirates still just 3.5 games out of first, they most certainly are not "done." They're still very much in it despite the division record. But it still needs to improve, beginning tomorrow night.
Another blown lead by the bullpen.
This is why the Bucs just aren't as good as they could be. They really need to fix up the Pitching.

I watch and see plenty. You can't make the playoffs if you're losing 2/3 of your games to the top 3 teams in your division. It's getting frustrating. And it's not just the bullpen. It's lack of clutch hitting in close games. They score their runs in bunches and then shut it down in the latter innings for some reason. They need to start delivering timely hits after the 6th inning to take some pressure off this bullpen. Because as presently constructed we don't have a reliable closer.
So no I don't blame Watson for his first poor outing in ages. But I'm seeing disturbing trends that will prevent this team from making the playoffs if they aren't stopped.
Last thing I also understand that the Pirates jumped back into contention by beating up on mostly bottom feeders. So 6 games over .500 was somewhat of an illusion.
"A man's got to know his limitations."
In fairness, they lost 3 of the 4 games so far in the other team's last at-bat. They were in position to win them, but the bullpen coughed them up. As I have been saying at times this season, the Pirates' problem is pitching. First it was the starters, now it's the relievers. If you just take the games the bullpen has given away this season just to their division rivals, they would be in first place right now. If GMNH and Baghdad Bob do anything by the deadline, adding a reliable reliever or 2 should be the way to go.
BTW, they do have a closer. Mark Melancon...remember him? Haven't seen him in a week.
