This is exactly what I thought when I first heard about the signing. At this point, we have him, Jarvis, Jason, and Chris. We have four outside linebackers. I don't think the Steelers bring another one in.
I think it was a good deal money wise. I hope he can pan out. There seems to be excitement here about his signing.
Unless between Moats and Jarvis, one of them is transitioned inside. Not expecting it, but it could render Harrison still a possibility.
He played as both for Buffalo. When we were looking at him we expected him to play inside. Some sites are even saying that he'll play inside beside Timmons. But officially he was signed to play/backup at OLB. Who really knows for sure? At the very least, even if his ultimate destiny is a backup OLB, in camp I think he'll at least get some looks inside.
There is no way that he plays backup. If there are four LBers on our roster who are better than Moats...someone needs to point them out to me. I'll bet my paycheck that he ends the season as a solid starter. I loved this guy in college and followed him with the Bills who TOTALLY didnt know what they had in him. He is explosive..strong...fast..and is the type of guy that the fans will love. Workout warrior with high character.
I cant wait to see what this cat is going to do!

Could he be the next type of signing like James Farrior or Ryan Clark? Hopefully, he does not bring any stink of the Bills with him.
All Defense!
I doubt he's the next Farrior. Not saying it's impossible. But if he even manages to outperform Larry Foote... then this is gold.

I wonder if he or we wanted a 1yr deal? He could be looking on us as a stepping stone to a bigger deal or we could be not sure of his worth. Kind of surprised he signed a low deal on his first visit
Merry Christmas
Well, doesn't that depend on where we put him? We certainly don't have two better ILBs, but unless we move Jones inside, he isn't going to start at OLB unless we have an injury (or unless Jones tanks in pre-season). I haven't heard this talk before about moving Jones inside. Wasn't he drafted to be our next great pass rusher? If he doesn't amount to that he will certainly be a disappointment. Not a bust if he becomes a great ILB I guess, but still not the need we were looking to fill with him as our #1 overall pick.
If Moats is the answer at ILB though, that is great news. We take a corner with our first pick and this defense might be good enough this year to get us to the playoffs, especially given our favorable schedule.
I think that was speculation by fans on Twitter or maybe a Bouchette chat. I'm not sure where I saw it but it wasn't by any "official" Steeler source.
I think I found the article but it's not really about moving inside.. They played 3 OLBs at the same time in the Oakland game.
