I'l reserve judgement, also. We've brought in some guys in the past that worked out well for us that nobody thought would. Even William Gay proved to be servicable. Let's wait and see what happens.

It's not as complicated as most fans make it out to be. Baby-Zilla was signed as camp competition. We fans want everyone signed as a starter and only want pro-bowlers. Fact is, the Steelers front office needs to fill out a roster with the best 53 + 8 practice squad'ers they can. Signing Cam Thomas tells me just a few things.

1. They feel and plan on Fangupo being ready to compete as the starter at NT and Cam Thomas is taking Fangupo's last seasons "back-up role" roster spot.

or 2. Fangupo has show nothing and his days on the Steeler roster are numbered (This camp being his last chance) and Cam Thomas was signed to push him off the roster and into his life's work.

We as fans have NO idea how the Steelers feel about guys like Fangupo. Right now, sitting around the meeting room, they feel/think-they-know/hope he has it, OR HE DOESN'T.

If we pick a guy like Nix in the draft or sign a guy like "Mount Cody", then they have NO faith in Fangupo. If not, they have another plan for the #1 NT and either Cam or Fangupo will be bagging groceries at Giant Eagle come September.

Cam Thomas is simply competition for the #2 spot behind Fangupo or someone in their future plans.

Well ... that would be great, but you don't give someone $2 million in guaranteed money to be camp competition for the backup spot. We're kind of locked in to this for better or for worse.

This. Everyone is bitching we lost all our depth, then bitch when we sign someone for depth. You can't sign all pro-bowlers. We need depth in a bad way. You have to sign someone even if the price is higher than you would like. FA has demanded that.
