I was pissed about this draft.

We needed offensive linemen in 2008.

Definitely didn't have "it". Had all the physical tools, but just didn't have the emotional and mental fortitude to last in the NFL.

Not enough self-discipline, selfish, not a galvanized personality, did not understand the larger picture and his attitude was clouded with misguided opinions that did not benefit anybody.

    Mendenhall Retires from the NFL

    http://www.steelersdepot.com/2014/03...-retire-at-26/

LabRat0116 Game_Time• a minute agoSteelerNation needs to acknowledge this fact that although a player maybe the most gifted physically (in size and athleticism), if he does not posses the heart and soul of a true Warrior, he is completely useless! ie......what-the-hell is Mike Adams doing on this team ?

I remember Colbert and Tomlin thought we hit the jackpot. I thought we did too. Maybe the other teams that drafted before us did their homework better.

People change. Sometime between the Super Bowl fumble and his ill advised Osama Bin Laden tweet Mendenhall checked out from being a football player and never came back. Prior to the Super Bowl fumble he played some pretty good football in 2009-10 for the Steelers.

Yes, which goes to show that the draft is still largely a crapshoot. You can't measure a player's heart or desire like a 40 time.

And I still think Sweed's confidence was completely destroyed through Tomlin's mishandling of his situation. I don't have many scathing criticisms of Tomlin as a coach, but I do believe he mishandled Sweed badly. Vince Lombardi's genius as a coach came partly through his ability of knowing exactly when a player needed a kick in the butt or a pat on the back. IMO, Sweed got a kick in the butt when he should have gotten a pat on the back.

This. Mendy did have a couple of good years as our starting running back. I felt he was never used the right way when he was with the team. I don't completely blame him for the fumble though. David Johnson completely whiffed on his block which allowed Clay Matthews to get a good hit on Mendy.

Not that it wasn't already "official," but this pretty much seals the deal that the Steelers 2008 draft...worst in team history and I'd put it up against any teams as worst ever...lol

No way was it the worst in Steeler history. Some of those drafts in the 80's were worse. And Noll's last first rounder never played a down for the Steelers.

got to give credit here though ....

Mendenhall on his retirement: "The culture of football now is very different from the one I grew up with" ....when I came up, Teammates fought together for wins and got respect for the fight

to the bold , it was not do to lack of talent , he damned near died in a car crash and sustained injuries that no man has come back from and played 1 down of football with so hardly a stance I would make for an argument / debate platform

Should have drafted Duane Brown that year, a pro bowl tackle for the Texans.

    Cliff Avril over Bruce Davis.

Still think 2008 is worse than 85 draft...although that one is pretty bad itself.

I said Noll's last draft, as in 91 first round bust Huey Richardson. And the 85 first round pick was Daryl Simms. I wasn't referencing Senor Sack Gabe Rivera. I know that story and wouldn't mock him.

Mendenhall had 2 1000 yard seasons. Ryan Mundy had a few good Steeler moments too. Outside of 8th round pick Harry Newsome no one in the 85 draft class made any impact for any amount of time in the NFL
