White House Now Resorting to Cat Pictures to Sell Obamacare
Over the past few months the White House has launched an all out assault on pop culture in order to push the very unpopular Affordable *snicker* Care Act. Obama has appeared on the late night and daytime talk show circuit begging the millennial crowd to enroll. Celebrities like Lady Gaga, Jennifer Hudson and Pharrell have signed on as government shills and the massively expensive print and television ad campaign has already spawned some pretty clever parodies.
However, despite all the money and all the celebrity influence being pumped into the publicity campaign Obamacare remains more unpopular than ever, especially among the one group of enrollees needed to make it work – millennials. It doesn’t help when Michelle Obama refers to young people the White House is trying to woo as “knuckleheads” and it also doesn’t help that the result of Obamacare has been to create more uninsured Americans, not fewer.
The administration is clearly getting desperate to turn around its disastrous signature legislation. A visit to the White House’s website will lead you to the ACA Bracket page – The 16 Sweetest Reasons to Get Covered. See what they did there?
My friend Emily over at NakedDC once told me, “If you can’t make your point with a cat picture its not worth making.” Apparently the Obama administration was listening (not too unbelievable these days). The ACA Brackett page also contains a series of animated GIFs featuring young knuckleheads doing stupid things, Michelle Obama’s late-night talk show revelries, ducks celebrating free birth control and cats. Lots of cats doing cute cat things, funny cat things, weird cat things.
Because nothing is cuter than President and Mrs. Eat-Your-Peas forcing you to buy a product you don’t want and then fining you if you don’t.
