Steelers want more production from 2013 rookie class

Jarvis Jones calls it “challenging,” and it's a word every member of the Steelers' much-anticipated rookie class could use to describe his first NFL half-season.

    Challenging, long and frustrating.

It's November, when colleges are beginning to wind down their seasons. But the NFL is only winding up with two more full months left to play — a period during which this class's success or failure will be judged.

“I was just saying, ‘Man, I don't even know what week it is,' ” Jones said Thursday. “I just know they're going by fast now. It (playing in the NFL) is more mentally challenging than physically.”

“It's a l-o-n-g season,” safety Shamarko Thomas said. “What we can't do is hit that rookie wall; that's the big thing.” .........

    Patience, grasshopper.

We got some very good players this year. You can't expect everyone to be an instant All-Pro.

Yet, that's what everyone wants... But, it won't happen. They need time to learn and adjust to pro ball since this level is far more complicated and faster.

Pretty much this. The big story isn't that the team wants more production from the rookies, it's that they need it in the first place.

How about more production from previous drafts, as well as 2013?

I think this does harken back to the coaching staff and their insistence, or inflexibility, to do things their way rather than assess the talent, or lack thereof, and make strategic decisions based on it. Oftentimes, you'll hear about an offensive coordinator "simplifying" an offense for a rookie quarterback. It's not the case with the defense.

oh right, but what about draft classes 2008 through 2012? Should we be patiently waiting for them to "pan out" as well?

Well since we're at it, I want a BJ from a hot porn star in my brand-new mansion, not a crappy palmjob in an alley from a cheap hooker. But there's wanting, and then there's reality.

Re: Steelers want more production from 2013 rookie class

So about that Jarvis Jones pick...

Worilds had how many tackles and 2 sacks on Sunday. I get that it was against a really banged up line, but still. Can I have it explained to me again why this team absolutely had to pick an OLB at 17 who had question marks about his ability to transition to the NFL at an elite level.

Players that could have went at that spot that are impacting:

    Eric Reid
Cordarelle Patterson (if Minny's O-cordinator wasn't worse than ours, this kid would be being force fed the ball. Looks like an absolute monster in waiting)
    Kiko Alonso

I'm sure there are others. I hope I am wrong, but I predict that Jones will be a useful NFL starter, but not the star first round "splash" player some billed him as.

I can watch nascar races 24-7-365 but it won't enable me to drive like them .... sometimes the only way to learn and get used to things is by doing them

I still feel like he will be an impact player, he certainly has the tools and the motor. I just think he is making rookie mistakes and wanting to make plays so bad he gets himself out of position. When I watch worlids he doesn't jump of the screen like jones does, but you are right he hasn't made much of an impact so far.

I totally hop you are right. I have zero problem with Jones' effort, his attitude seems amazing based on the comments I have seen in the press, and I do not think I have any irrational bias against the guy. I just haven't seen much that says...oh...yeah...that was why he went in the 1st round.

I honestly have not seen the "jump off the screen" thing yet in the regular season. But, I have also missed several games.

exactly what tools does he have? He's slow, weak and unathletic. The best thing about him is he has a good motor but that alone won't cut it in the nfl.
