Steelers Place Two on IR; Sign Gordon, Green

Steelers Place Levi Brown and David Johnson on Reserve/Injured List; Sign Richard Gordon and Isaiah Green

The Pittsburgh Steelers placed offensive tackle Levi Brown and tight end/fullback David Johnson on the Reserve/Injured List, the team announced today.

Brown (triceps) was in his seventh NFL season and was acquired via a trade with the Arizona Cardinals on October 2, 2013. He started Arizona’s first four games this season but did not appear in a game with Pittsburgh.

Johnson (wrist) was in his fifth season with Pittsburgh and had appeared in all five games this season, making two starts and catching four passes. For his career, Johnson has appeared in 52 games, starting 26, and recording 22 receptions for 216 yards and one touchdown.

To fill the roster spots, the Steelers signed free agent tight end Richard Gordon and promoted cornerback Isaiah Green from the practice squad.

Are you serious. First person in history to suffer a season ending injury during WARM-UPS. I did not know that was possible

Another year as a sideline bunny for Johnson. Did this guy ever make it through an entire season?

That better have been a conditional pick for Brown.

Johnson needs to be gone also. No point in having a guy on the roster who's always hurt.

To his credit, he gets hurt in the game and the injuries are significant (not pulled this or strained that).

What could be that wrong with Max Starks that he's on the street but Guy Wimper not only is on a roster but gets to dress on Sunday?

There is a bright side to the Steelers trade for Levi Brown, who was placed on injured reserve without playing a game for him.

At least it didn’t cost them anything.

What? It cost them about $800,000. That isn't nothing since we are strapped for cash and it makes it hard to pick up anyone else even at vet min.

Yes, it didn't cost them a draft pick, but it didn't cost them nothing. They just basically handed the cardinals a check for $800,000 against the money they owe him and got nothing in return.

Amazing how even something that looked risk-free can come back to bite you in the ass.

The other things this costs us is the chance to see if he would've been a legitimate option at LT next year. Now I guess we just release him at the end of the season, because there's no way we're paying him a $6M salary next year. Oh well. At least we won't have to eat a big signing bonus as dead money, and we can see if Beachum proves to be the guy against all odds.

Also, I think the Johnson injury locks us back into our previous pattern of selecting a marginally useful TE that we don't need in the 7th round every year. Bank on it.

I like DJ but any player that's always hurt isn't worth having on the roster. You can't depend on him.

Gordon making his first TD. Some of those guys on the other team look familiar.

Three grabs and 11 yards in two years.

Again, I don't see his getting hurt the same as someone like Lefty. Yes, he's been injured two year consecutively, but that, to me, doesn't automatically translate to "always hurt." Just my opinion on it.

Playing the role of Willie Colon will be Levi Brown.

If the Michael Oher story had to be told, so too must the Willie Colon story. "The Sideline" or something...

you guys are being pretty tough on DJ IMO http://www.steelers.com/team/roster/...e-69563b3e5fa1 he had 2 season ending injuries the past 2 years YES but over all he has been basically a healthy guy in football terms ... 47 of 48 total games from 2009 -2011 just 2 injuries in 5 seasons they just happened to be severe injuries that cost him a season and most of a season ..so Glass IMO is harsh
