Probably the most assinine, unwarranted fine for a hit that I've seen yet.

Pretty much everyone here knows that I have no problem fining a player that uses his helmet to hit another player in the head, or even a player that goes headhunting (rule states that you can't forearm or slam a guy in the head with your hands, either). That said, if this was the reason for the fine, it is the most asinine, stupid thing to come out of the NFL front office yet. This isn't a matter of controlling your body so that you don't hit someone in the head. This is a matter of coming into a player to hit him, and he puts his head down to hit you. If ANYONE should be fined in this situation, it should be the WR.

With that said, I do hope the WR is all right and there was no lasting injury.

once again the defensive player gets a fine because the guy on O decides to lower his head or change his body positioning .... when will the league understand you can only control what actions you take and can NOT control the actions of others ?

Maybe Goodell should be in the adjoining Cell with Hernandez after all should Goodell not have been able to control what Hernandez does off the field since he is asking other players to control what the opponent does ...

If the WR knows that there is the possibility of receiving extreme pain for catching a ball he is less likely to catch it, especially when going across the middle. Was a massive hit, and not a cheap shot. The WR was left exposed by the QB.

He got fined for the extreme effectiveness of the hit. Soon the NFL will expect the WRs to simply go down when a CB puts two hands on them. And the CB will be expected to reciprocate on the field like it's a homecoming dance.

The only reason the defender got fined was because he swung his arm after the hit. Even though it had nothing to do with where he hit him or how hard. They see that and because it LOOKS violent, they go "OMG HEADHSOT!!11!!!!" and it's pretty much automatic.
