Steelers No. 1 receiver Antonio Brown stands 5 feet, 10 inches, and fellow starter Emmanuel Sanders measures 5-11. Jerricho Cotchery and Markus Wheaton, the likely third and fourth receivers, are 6-1 and 5-11.

Height is not a prerequisite for catching footballs in the NFL, but it's not a secret franchise quarterback Ben Roethlisberger has long desired a big target in the passing game. The Steelers only have one player remaining in training camp now that fits that mold after veteran receiver Plaxico Burress sustained a torn rotator cuff that required surgery.

Derek Moye, a former standout at Rochester High School and Penn State, is 6-5 and towers over his competition for the fifth and likely final receiver spot on the roster.

He had a few nice grabs in the first preseason game. I could see it happening. A big target would be nice.

Ben Roethlisberger approves of this message.

Height's overrated. We always bring big guys in camp. Micah Rucker (6'7), Matt Trannon (6'6). They don't make the team. Same old song and dance.

The weird thing is ...the writer of the article stated:

"He's coming," Mann said of Derek. "He's starting to drink the Kool-Aid, buy into all the little stuff we try to do to try to compensate for some of the deficiencies. He's not real fast, but he can run.
    Yet....I know he ran a 4.44 at his pro-day.

    Two issues.

    1. Pro Day. Numbers are fudged.

    2. Shorts =/= pads

I don't think anyone is expecting it or anything, but if he can be a help it'll be nice. I hope he makes the team.

My Bad...his Pro Day was 4.41. His combine was 4.44.

But I wonder if Manns was alluding to "quickness" more than strightline speed?

I'm seeing a lot of different numbers out there but nothing as low a 4.41.

NFL.com has him listed a 4.52. NFLDraftScout has him listed as a 4.46 at the Combine and a 4.44 at his Pro Day. But we don't have to split hairs over that stuff.

Just guessing, but I think Mann is saying he's a build-up speed guy.

And if we're using Pro Day Numbers and 40 times, Rucker ran a 4.47 at his Pro Day.

At the bottom of their page.

03/14/12 - Penn State Pro Day: Wide receiver Derek Moye (6-4, 209) turned in a 4.41-second 40, nearly a full tenth of a second faster than his combine time, and also did the three-cone drill, 60-yard shuttle and caught passes from former Penn State quarterback Daryll Clark. "I think it went really well," Moye said. "I caught the ball well, ran a better 40 time than I did at the combine. I think I did a lot to increase my value." Moye, a likely mid-round pick, has had trouble adding weight to his slender frame throughout his career but is happy with where he is now (209 pounds) and said he didn't want to change his body type too much before starting his pro career. - Jeff Reynolds, NFLDraftScout.com

That's weird because it still has him listed as running a 4.44 on their page.

But like I said, Pro Day Numbers aren't to be trusted.

Don't care about height. If he produces awesome, but I'd rather not have someone make the team because they are 6-5. If a 5-5 receiver outperforms him by even a hair give me the midget every single time.

His only hope to make this team is as a practice quad player.
