Coach Tomlin held him out as a precautionary measure to keep resting his knee. I'm thinking that they must REALLY like him and are making sure he's 100% for the season.

They say he had a tender knee, so they decided to keep him off the field.
I think it was a good idea to not play him. A preseason game is not worth further aggravating a knee injury
