I agree, I'm not African-American, but I think it's an offensive word. ANYTIME i hear it used it makes the hair on the back my neck stand up. I don't understand why the rap/hip-hop culture has chosen to toss that word around so casually.

What does begin African-American have to do with it? Isn't DeCastro's parents from Africa and he was born there? Does that NOT make him African-American? Is he black or would he be considered caucasian?

By African-American you mean BLACK. Why not use the correct verbiage.

The excuse he'd come up with is that the context/connotation is different. It's a pretty common justification for black people using the word so freely. Hell, my own mother and many members of my family have used it. I've also had it said around me by white guys when I went to college at WVU, and I remember being pretty angry about it.
