"A man's got to know his limitations."
Sounded pretty deliberate to me. Now he's sorry? I wonder if he'll hear from Kerry Collins.
Firing squad. No more, no less.
In fact, I am surprised the Dems haven't legislated against stupidity. Then again, they rely on that.
Seriously, why is racism (as long as a white is not the victim) THE issue that has to get reported and reacted upon. He showed his ignorance, but did not commit a crime. Why even give him the time of day?
While I agree with your take on racism in our society, I think it may actually be more fair in professional sports (or at least football and baseball). If a black player called a white player something racially offensive, I have little doubt the response would be the same.
In no way do I condone what he did and he was rightfully punished (fined) for the action.
But I mean, it is just a word. They have Michael Vick on the team. They still have Jason Peters who got a DUI in the offseason. Far worse offenses than a racial slur. Will not and should not be released over it. Deserves a second chance.

Great column by Jason Whitlock on this issue.
"A man's got to know his limitations."
The whole thing is just way overblown. The guy made a fool of himself, that's for sure. But was it really worthy of the #1 story on espn.com all day, ahead of about 50 things that had to do with actual sports?
It's also entirely possible to believe that the guy isn't a racist at all, but just got way too carried away in whatever situation he was in and did something he regrets. That kind of thing happens sometimes when people are drunk and fired up, whatever race they are.
I don't know. There's not really any excuse for his behavior; I can't say I've ever used that word in anything like its regular sense, and I've been plenty drunk and in plenty of fired-up situations. But seriously, the guy is a minor player on a mediocre team saying something dumb at a concert. Nobody was hurt, nobody was killed, and nobody was trying to cheat on the field. This is hardly national news. One can't help but wonder if the only reason it's being blown up into same is because certain elements in the media and the complainosphere are still on a comedown from the whole Zimmerman trial thing, and looking for the next racial story to pounce on.
See you Space Cowboy ...
Its not complicated. The media loves to blow up everyday, but offensive commonalities to their liking because they are good at picking what the public will react to the most. Trayvon Martin and George Zimmerman? Similiar things to that happen everyday, but its something that will outrage both sides and make the press.
Hell, look at us. Were making a professional athlete most people have never even heard of famous right now.
LeSean Mccoy says he cant respect a man who uses that word. Yet I bet his Ipod is full of rap music. Hypocrite?
The excuse he'd come up with is that the context/connotation is different. It's a pretty common justification for black people using the word so freely. Hell, my own mother and many members of my family have used it. I've also had it said around me by white guys when I went to college at WVU, and I remember being pretty angry about it. My view is that no one should be using it at all, in any context. It's degrading, offensive and disrespectful. Hopefully Cooper has learned his lesson and won't be doing or saying anything stupid like that again.
Agree 100%.
Probably the same idiots who burn couches. The excuse he'd come up with is that the context/connotation is different. It's a pretty common justification for black people using the word so freely. Hell, my own mother and many members of my family have used it. I've also had it said around me by white guys when I went to college at WVU, and I remember being pretty angry about it.
Ya know, I started to write a more politically correct post about it being an overblown mistake, but fuck it. I'm taking issue with this. If DeSean Jackson was on video saying "N" no one would give a fuck. There's your fucking racism. I don't cheer on Cooper for using the term at all, but to be blunt - I guarantee you he hears that word DOZENS of times every single day at practice. The black youth who promote the word as common slang are responsible for the term being as popular as it is. Let's stop the double standards and call it what it is. Bullshit.
"If you are holding on to something that you no longer need to hold on to, I encourage you to let go." - Rashard Mendenhall
I don't think its just about him using the word, it's how he was using it and who he was using it towards. If he was on camera saying " I want to give a shout out to all my n---a's out there" then I don't think we would see all the backlash. Cooper was using the word in anger as a racial slur so I don't think calling this incident a racist behavior is that far over blown.
It's definitely debatable as to if he used the "a" version or the "er" version.
LeSean McCoy "can't respect a guy like Cooper." You know...the same guy that encourages the assault of a woman and then stands her on the side of the highway. He has no respect for a guy like Cooper...
I didn't even mean the difference between the "a" version or the "er" version I meant the fact he was yelling it at a black security guard meaning as a racial slur certainly not as a term of endearment. Yes I agree "Shady McCoy" Needs a reality check he's not exactly a pillar of standards and maybe he forgot who his quarterback is?
He is gonna get lit up by some Safety and he will say something about it count on it. This guys is a idiot
For those i love i will sacrifice.
Si ventus non est, remiga
Love the way they make it sound "voluntary." Over/under on number of days before they cut him outright?
Probably gets cut at the end of camp. Do it as quietly as possible when there are so many other roster moves being made. It'll still be a story, of course, but a slightly smaller one.
Really unfair to Cooper. Career might be over because of one drunken mistake that didn't physically harm anybody. Sportscenter is seriously talking about this as much as the Hernandez case.
Jason Peters flees from the cops after street racing at 100 mph? No biggie. Cooper does something stupid while drunk that doesn't even have the potential to physically hurt someone. Monster!
*For the record, earlier I said Peters got a DUI. Pretty sure that was false. My fault.
Well, is Jason Peters a huge part of their team? I think that would play a role in it.
I personally think that this isn't a big deal and that it is being blown up by the media. I think it was wrong for him to have said that and that he should have never said it to begin with, but I think he's already payed the price. He's apologized to fans and his teammates while paying a fine. I don't think he should be cut just because of this and the media needs to let it go and stop with the witch hunt. Gotta love living in a politically correct society.![]()
Yeah, and I'm sure none of these guys would have any trouble being teammates with Brandon Marshall or Ray Lewis, or Donte Stallworth etc... Assualting woman isn't nearly as bad as using a racist slur. ending someone's life due to drunk driving, no big deal. Accessory to murder, not a problem. Hell look at the dude in Dallas, killed his own teammate and still can't stay sober, no one objects to him being on the team. But be white and use a racial slur, and your worse than Ted Bundy.
