    Another weird soccer incident...

South American Football - Referee beheaded by fans for killing player

The barely believable incident happened in Maranhao, Brazil, last Sunday.

According to reports in Brazil, referee Otavio Jordao da Silva (20) fatally stabbed footballer Josenir dos Santos Abreu (30) during a heated moment of a match. Santos Abreu is believed to have argued and then struck the referee after being unhappy with a decision. It is believed the referee was carrying a knife throughout the match and fatally stabbed the player in retaliation. Santos Abreu was rushed to hospital but died from injuries on the way.

Outraged by the incident, some spectators then apparently decided to inflict a gruesome revenge on the referee. According to reports, the referee was tied up, beaten, stoned and quartered. They then put his head on a stake and planted it in the middle of the pitch.

If anyone remembers the 1994 World Cup in the United States they might remember a story about Andres Escobar. He was a Colombian soccer player who accidently kicked in an own goal against the United States, and the United States won that game against Colombia. He was later gunned down at a coffee shop in Colombia for his mistake.

So, not to sound disrespectful to the deceased, but this happens all the time in soccer. We thin we are fanatical fans, would you kill a Raven's fan because he rooted for Baltimore. 99.999999999999999999999999% of you would say NO. Soccer, or Football, in every other part of the world rules.

    Holy shiite.

I told off quite a few soccer refs back in the day but would have never considered bumping or hitting a ref.

Nothing wrong with a heated exchange imo but physical confrontation is over the line imo....no matter how angry you are.

30 for 30 did an episode on this. The Two Escobars. Haven't seen it but heard it was one of their best. Know it's on Netflix if anyone is interested.
