Line putting in their time this offseason

In a corner of the Steelers weight room Maurkice Pouncey’s voice could be heard above the throbbing beat of the music blaring through the speakers.

“C’mon man, c’mon man,” Pouncey encouraged his fellow offensive linemen as they pumped weights one more time, then another, driven by the encouragement. “Let’s go.”

It’s been a common occurrence to hear that kind of encouragement over the last few months, whether it’s Pouncey, Ramon Foster, Marcus Gilbert, or any of the linemen. They are all taking part in the team’s offseason program and they are there to support and help each other get better..........

May the gel be with them.

If they're hitting the weight room hard, that makes me most excited for Adams.

I didn't think he was a problem last year once they stuck him on the right side. He got schooled by top/elite level LB's/DE's, but that amounted to I think six or seven plays last season, and came more from inexperience than physicality. I think he only got driven back once or twice, and that again, was an elite player that was able to get under his pads at the snap.

What did you see that makes you think he needs to be in the weight room?

He's already a good natural run blocker. If he gets stronger he can be great in that area. That's why I'd be excited to hear about him hitting the weight room vigorously. That said, your assessment of him as a total package is very generous in my opinion. And we've had this conversation before. It wasn't just elite players he struggled against, he got destroyed by average pass rushers all season. He gave up nearly a sack per game and allowed countless hurries on the quarterback. He can't pass protect. Once he turns outside the defender can take the inside lane before Adams even knows what happens. And defenses caught on to that quickly. I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt as it was his rookie season and I expect him to improve, but if he can't correct those flaws he isn't a starting right tackle in this league - forget about someone you can trust playing the blind side.
