Steelers took Eddie Lacy off their draft board

The Steelers chose Michigan State RB Le'Veon bell with the 48th pick in the draft, despite many suggesting Alabama RB Eddie Lacy was a better choice.

While the Steelers never had any real reported interest in Lacy, many suggested he would be their choice, should Lacy have fallen into the second round.

As it turns out, according to the Post-Gazette (via NFL.com), even if he was there in the third round, or the fourth, the Steelers wouldn't have taken him.

They took the Alabama star off their draft board due to a toe injury he suffered last year, and had surgically fused together afterward.............

Amazing how a toe can ruin a career.

It was the only injury I ever had that required a cortisone shot.

Sounds like they were a little more conservative this draft - character-wise as well.

im happy with this move. I heard alot more about Bell and the Steelers pre-draft, so it wasn't a surprise to me when they took him. Even though I desparately wanted Lacy and/or Bradshaw, I'm gonna drink the kool-aid on this one and hope he turns out to be a beast in the NFL. Besides, what good would it be drafting a beast like Lacy if he's gonna have toe problems all of his career?

Turf toe ended Lambert's career early.

I like the decision. The Steeler's don't need the baggage of a rookie.

That's a sentence that just should never have been written. "Injury ended Lambert's career early." "Torn ligaments ended Lambert's career early."

But "turf toe" and "ended Lambert's career" just seems blasphemous.

I get the move, especially if they really liked what Bell showed.

Kinda figured that. I'm happy they went with Bell instead.

Re: Steelers took Eddie Lacy off their draft board

I got a little giddy at the thought of Lacy in the 2nd, but as soon as the Steelers took Bell I knew it was a medical issue... he fell too far for it to be anything else.. still wish we would have waited till the 3rd.
I have been a Steelers faithful since I was a 6 year old... my mom has pictures of me dressed in my steelers uniform back in '76... yep I'm old but a diehard... I understand defense and recognize offense, if you get it you get it.

Actually, Willie Parker was the leagues leading rusher in December when he broke his leg. He was never the same after that.

I don't believe a Steelers running back has led the league in rushing yards since then.

Re: Steelers took Eddie Lacy off their draft board

I think that it was a good choice on the Steelers' part. We don't know how much his turf toe will limit him. Then again, it may not limit him and he could have a stellar career. I just think that it was good choice to not draft him because of the possibility of it affecting his career.

Franklin is a fumble machine. No thanks. The F.O. does ten times the homework we do on these guys, so I'll trust them.

I like Franklin, but he's a little guy and I prefer the bigger backs like Bell. Fits us better, I think
