Day 3: Rumor alert! RB trade in the works?

NFL network just reported the Steelers are looking to "unload" one of their running backs after drafting Le'Veon Bell... reporter said "the name I'm hearing is Jonathan Dwyer..." but that's not a fact.

    - - - Updated - - -

Daniel Jeremiah@MoveTheSticks18mI'm told the Steelers are trying to trade one of their RB's…Jonathan Dwyer is the name I've heard. #Steelers

    - - - Updated - - -

Ken Torgent@ktorgent4mDwyer would make the most sense as far as trading a RB away. Only back on roster who doesn't/can't fill a defined role

Suddenly deep at running back, Steelers may try to trade Jonathan Dwyer http://wp.me/p14QSB-8y88

Makes sense, Bell makes Dwyer expendable and if we can get some draft picks for him, the benefits will outweigh the costs

Trade Dwyer? For what, a six-pack of beer?

Never mind - since Jerry Jones is doing his damnedest to fill the void left by Al Davis as far as clueless draft moves go, maybe we can sucker him. I'm surprised Belicheat hasn't taken advantage of that yet...Davis was his patsy for years. I'm sure he could probably con the next 3 years' worth of Dallas' first and second rounders out of Jones for Shane Vereen and a bucket of warm Gatorade.

Take this for what it is worth: Scout Dave-Te Thomas emailed me to tell me Dwyer is actively being shopped & Denver wants him for Joe Mays

    - - - Updated - - -

On September 25, 2012, Mays was suspended for one game and fined $50,000 dollars by the NFL for his hit on the Houston Texans quarterback Matt Schaub that took off Schaub's earlobe

While Joe Mays would add a lot to our interior... (and tbh that would be a slam dunk, almost like using our second rounder to get LeVeon Bell *and* Joe Mays), we'd have to be able to work out a contract extension immediately because Mays is slated to make $4mm this year

Of course I like Dwyer and would rather keep him, and cut Batch/Redman... but maybe the coaches see something different, or Dwyer has asked for it now that we drafted Bell

Traded up? It seems like they still have their other 4th rounder... what did they trade?

They'll get a 3rd rounder as comp for Wallace, so I'm cool with that, actually.

Re: Day 3: Rumor alert! RB trade in the works?

I guess Jones is a good value for where we got him, but ... ????? Count me surprised to say the least.

Glad we also finally got a safety - seemed like a lot of potential but also question marks with this guy based on the scouting reports, but that's the fourth round for you, I suppose. If he plays better than Mundy, then we've at least improved ourselves in the short term.

Still wondering what we do about ILB. Not a whole lot of impact players left out there, although the Mays thing is intriguing. We'd probably find a way to make it fit; $4M is not impossible especially given the cap space we get from Colon. That looks like our best option so far.

Although if we traded Dwyer for a 6th or better, that's what we used to get him in the first place, so that + 3 years of OK service + not having to pay him a big salary increase seems like a win to me.

I was kinda hoping for a ball hawk safety a guy who creates turnovers not sure this guy is it. Big hitting safeties were great in the past but now most of the time they lay the wood its a penalty.

I don't like the idea of trading Dwyer. He doesn't run with as much power as his size would indicate, but I'd still like to see as much competition at the position as possible. He's young and still could make more progress. I'm not ready to crown a rookie as the starting rb.

you may not be ready to crown Bell as the starter but trust me he IS the starter and the most talented RB on the team by a large margin IMO , I would Rather of had a few other guys but Bell was at the top of my pimp list at RB until the new rule change about lowering your head as a RB then I started shying away from the big backs becuase I now believe the direction of the league will be speed guys at RB
