Re: 5% of voters will believe whatever you tell them.

What's *really* disturbing is if you go into the cross-tabulated data a disturbingly high percentage of voters don't remember who they voted for. Somehow, that's even *worse* than the conspiracy theories.

Just have to think back to your high school days. Not everyone was an A grader and with it.

They must have forgot to add an additional "0" to that calculation; I'd say at least 50% here

Re: 5% of voters will believe whatever you tell them.

They didn't say. I'm guessing that the ones who believe in lizard people probably believe all the rest.

    All of the questions:

    - 37% of voters believe global warming is a hoax
    - 6% of voters believe Osama bin Laden is still alive
    - 21% of voters say a UFO crashed in Roswell, NM in 1947 and the US government covered it up.
    - 28% of voters believe secretive power elite with a globalist agenda is conspiring to eventually rule the world through an authoritarian world government, or New World Order.
    - 28% of voters believe Saddam Hussein was involved in the 9/11 attacks.
    - 20% of voters believe there is a link between childhood vaccines and autism
    - 7% of voters think the moon landing was faked
    - 13% of voters think Barack Obama is the anti-Christ
    - Voters are split 44%-45% on whether Bush intentionally misled about weapons of mass destruction in Iraq.
    - 29% of voters believe aliens exist
    - 14% of voters say the CIA was instrumental in creating the crack cocaine epidemic in America’s inner cities in the 1980’s
    - 9% of voters think the government adds fluoride to our water supply for sinister reasons (not just dental health)
    - 4% of voters say they believe “lizard people” control our societies by gaining political power
    - 51% of voters say a larger conspiracy was at work in the JFK assassination, just 25% say Oswald acted alone
    - 14% of voters believe in Bigfoot
    - 15% of voters say the government or the media adds mind-controlling technology to TV broadcast signals (the so-called Tinfoil Hat crowd)
    - 5% believe exhaust seen in the sky behind airplanes is actually chemicals sprayed by the government for sinister reasons
    - 15% of voters think the medical industry and the pharmaceutical industry “invent” new diseases to make money
    - 5% of voters believe that Paul McCartney actually died in 1966
    - 11% of voters believe the US government allowed 9/11 to happen
Now... a few of these things, I don't think it's fair to characterize them as "conspiracy theories" or fringe beliefs. The global warming thing, for instance. Probably the only example where a healthy dose of skepticism toward a sketchy assertion is treated as a nutty belief.
The "Saddam was behind 9/11" thing is more of a case of misinformation than nutty unfounded belief. And as for whether Dubya "intentionally misled" us about WMDs, there's no way to know with certainty one way or the other.

Really global warming?i think that is the most dangerous group on there, 37% believe its a hoax, global warming has been declared to be happening by the top scientific agencies all over the globe. 37% is a large number of voters which could effect policy on global warming, if people are elected who treat this as a hoax and dont deal with it the results could be catastrophic.

I wouldn't mind discussing the politics of it, but we should do it in another thread.
What I'm talking about is the basis for the disagreement, which is reasonable enough that you can't fairly characterize people who aren't convinced as "nuts".

fair enough but i dont know what the disagreement would be based on, considering the science on global warming show it is happening. Its actually a huge conspiracy theory because it implys scientists all of the world are conspiring to make up global warming, for what reason i dont know.

Re: 5% of voters will believe whatever you tell them.

So back on topic... in the case of global warming, the prosecution hasn't presented a very compelling case and the defense has done a fair job of picking it apart. If over a third of the jurors remain unconvinced, it ain't 'cuz they're nuts.

I'm also at odds with the JFK assassination thing. #1 if the majority believes it, is it nuts? Well... maybe. But there's enough hinky stuff that went on there to raise eyebrows. Maybe not accepting a disputed claim of fact as gospel isn't quite the same thing as believing a disputed claim of fact.

The government has given us two different official answers. The Warren Commission gave us the single shooter, magic bullet theory. The House Committee on Assassinations concluded that there was a second shooter on the grassy knoll.

Interestingly, one member of the Warren Commission who dissented from its conclusions was US Representative Hale Boggs. His plane disappeared over Alaska in 1972 and was never found. When he left Washington for his ill fated trip, a young congressional staffer named William Jefferson Clinton dropped him off at the airport.

Jack Ruby was no avenging angel, he was a mobster through and through. And he killed Oswald to silence him. Period.
