The Baltimore Ravens are planning to build a statue for linebacker Ray Lewis, owner Steve Bisciotti said Thursday.

Lewis played the final game of his legendary 17-year career in Sunday's Super Bowl victory over the 49ers. He was a two-time NFL Defensive Player of the Year and 12-time Pro Bowl linebacker.

Bisciotti said he doesn't know where the statue would be built and doesn't know how long it would take. A statue of Colts quarterback Johnny Unitas is outside M&T Bank Stadium.

"I think he set himself apart in Baltimore sports history," Bisciotti said of Lewis, "and we will certainly look into it and I would not be surprised if there is one there in the next year or two."

Possible statue designs for photoshops should be good for this one.

In the spirit of "capturing" the essence of his career....I propose it be of him jumping on a pile and getting credit for the tackle.

That act alone counts for 3 tackles in their stadium

They may be able to capture his essence but there is no statue big enough to capture his ego.

If I had the means, I'd have a stealth mission one night to adda knife to one of his hands in a way that it would blend in and be a pain / costly to remove. Then when they removed it, I'd add it back again.

As much as I love Ray, I think we need to make a John Mackey Statue next to the Unitas one. Make a Ray Lewis one in 4-5 years.

    Mackey revolutionized the TE position.

To be fair, Lewis did revolutionize the LBer position. You know, jump on the pile, and make reallllly sure that the ball carrier is down.

I'd like to debate that. I think the person who really revolutionized the TE position was Mike Ditka and I'm not saying that just because he was from the Pittsburgh area and played at Pitt. That position wasn't important until he came around and its been important ever since. He was by far the most athletic TE in his day and would play through the worst of pain. As of right now, Iron Mike is the best TE to ever play the game.
