By Ed Bouchette / Pittsburgh Post-Gazette
The Steelers today signed veteran cornerback Justin King to their 53-man roster to shore up a position hard hit by injuries.

King, 25, played at Gateway High School in Monroeville and Penn State. He worked out for the Steelers several weeks ago.

The St. Louis Rams drafted him in the fourth round in 2008. He played for the Indianapolis Colts this season before they released him after the fifth week.

The Steelers played without two of their top three cornerbacks in Dallas. Ike Taylor has a hairline fracture of his ankle and No. 3 Cortez Allen missed the game with a groin injury. Starter Keenan Lewis left the game in the fourth quarter with a hip injury and backup DeMarcus Van Dyke left earlier with a separated shoulder.

Maybe we should try a Labrador Retriever that can catch frisbees? He can wear a #9 jersey.

High draft pick of the Rams. Think he suffered a pretty severe leg injury and never did much in St. Louis. Saw a good bit of action with the Colts.

Right now, we're just looking for bodies. Does sound promising that Cortez can play this weekend though.

King was brutal with the Rams. The Rams had a ton of injuries last year in their secondary so King played a lot and he was just plain bad.

was a 4th round pick that got hurt then lost in the system and when he got healthy he was not very good , just a warm body that might be able to help on special teams however i refuse to hold my breathe at picking up anyone off the street in mid December that is worth a damn

Re: Steeler's sign Justin King at CB

I thought King was going to be solid when he came out of Penn State a few years ago. He got some early buzz as a second round prospect before ultimately falling. As others have mentioned, he has yet to put it together. He probably won't last long, but he is young enough yet that he could still realize his potential, and does have some extensive real-game experience as well. Not the most exciting guy to be counting on if he sees the field, but not a bad roll of the dice for this point in the season, either. The shortlist of DB's available right now has to be pretty ugly.

Re: Steeler's sign Justin King at CB

Justin King was one of those players that teams had interest in due to his 40 time (4.31) and vertical (34 inches)....but I think he was either arrested at some point or had some off campus activity that dropped his draft status.

He was penciled in as a starter for the Colts but was released after negligible playing time due to injury.
