Meet Ben Roethlisberger, version 2.0: father, thirty-something quarterback and stand-up leader.

Roethlisberger, accustomed to the Steelers peaking in December rather than dealing with the piques of players such as unhappy running back Rashard Mendenhall, delivered a strong message Wednesday apparently aimed at his teammates.

To Roethlisberger, it‘s time to push aside all that‘s gone wrong during an uneven season and start getting it right with three games remaining. He especially doesn‘t want excuses about the depleted secondary, unreliable running game, player suspensions or injuries ripping apart the offensive line............

Ben's got the right idea, but more of our senior players need to step up and take charge of their team. Motivating their juniors is part of their job, and I don't see them doing it.
I was afraid this was going to happen when we lost Ward, Smith, Farrior, and others. Those guys were were the senior leaders and nobody stepped up to fill their role when they left. This is the result.
Guys like Big Snack, Da Beard, Ryan Clark need to step in and assume that role. They can't just notice that the team isn't ready to play, they have to take it upon themselves to fix that.

Word is Ben was really sharp in practice today. Just heard the report on ESPN so I can't link anything. But Wallace said something to the effect that Ben's passes are back to their normal velocity and he was hitting you perfectly coming out of your break. Ben admits to some rust last week, and not having his best fastball. But now says he's throwing pain free and feeling like he's got his rythm back.
