    "Accountability" from government employees??
Education isn't an end in politics, it's a jobs program. The goal isn't to educate kids, but rather to hire teachers. SEIU teachers. Who funnel lots of money into the Democratic Party.
It's like anything else. The parties aren't set up to address the needs of the country or to attain the high-minded goals of their rank and file. They are set up to get money.

That's why the rats were scurrying like mad when our conservative government implemented accountability in our school system. The teachers were the loudest opponents, but most of the parents wanted a better education system. This was not a generational change, this was done in less than 2 years.

As an aside, our teachers have the most powerful union in the province and maybe in the country. I know teachers in the US are vastly underpaid compared to ours.

And, I'm sure in your end game, you DO want accountability in your government programs. I certainly do. Hopefully a lot less programs, but they HAVE to be accountable.

True, but what works in Canada doesn't necessarily work in the US. Every time we get the federal government more involved in K-12 education, the outcomes get worse. It happened when we created the Department of Education in the late 1970s. It happened when Daddy Bush came up with Goals 2000. It happened when Chimpy and the Swimmer gave us No Child Gets Ahead. And of course, now we have Obumble and Race to the Top.

Insanity - Trying the same thing again and again and expecting different results.

That maybe because there is no accoutability in government either. It is sometimes hard to disinguish between liberal and conservative. The same names keep turning
up over and over only in a different position. Any truely new ideas get quickly cast aside so that the status quo marches on. Sometimes a team can not be changed till you change the players. I think the same can be said about the government.

The two party system has worked well for us for a lot of years, but now that system seems to have taken on a life of its own, and may have become part of the probem.
