Jones-Drew holdout expected to last into regular season
Well, at least Maurice Jones-Drew won’t have to put up with replacement officials.
Earlier today, owner Shahid Khan chided the holdout tailback, saying that the “[t]rain is leaving the station” and that he should “[r]un, get on it.” Though Jones-Drew still has had nothing to say about the situation, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that the holdout is expected to last into the regular season.
So Khan apparently has his answer.
If Jones-Drew shows up before the Tuesday after Week 10, he can finish out the season and get credit for the year of service under his contract. If he doesn’t report by the Tuesday after Week 10, he can’t play for the Jags or anyone in 2012, and his contract would kick over to 2013, keeping him signed for two more seasons.
The Jaguars are facing little pressure to cave, and Khan recently has said that, on a scale of one to 10, Jones-Drew’s absence doesn’t even move the needle.
With the parties dug in and no discernible middle ground, this one will continue until someone blinks.

3.5 a year for his suddenness. 3.5 million a year for his glide.

Si ventus non est, remiga
I'd trade them Mendy for him straight up.
He IS their offense.

Losing him would just destroy that team. They'd be screwed.
I'd trade Mendenhall and a 1st for him. I'm serious.
I don't think I'd give up a first for any RB nowadays, regardless of how good he is. When's the last time a truly top-flight RB was part of a Super Bowl-winning team? And the Bus doesn't count, because he was past it and not even a starter anymore when we won it back in '05. Marshall Faulk, maybe? That was well over a decade ago now, and the Rams also had a ton of other weapons besides him. The position of RB has become so devalued and the amount of punishment that they take has become so great that they're simply not worth breaking the bank for anymore, IMO.
I pretty much agree with you - except that teams with decent run teams are the ones that make the playoffs. It's there that they end up getting the run game shut down, since they're playing defenses that can manhandle them.
But overall, yeah, I'd trade a second for him, but not a first. Nor would I give up Mendy at this point. You know what kind of fire that'd put under Mendy's rear-end to start running harder?![]()
I don't blame him, not wanting to play for the "London Jaguars".
Fire Goodell
The real leverage is with age and sitting. MJD only loses value with each passing day. He kinda has to suck it up or kill his value and career. I figure he'll show for the regular season
Merry Christmas
I would have to agree I'd take him in a second to be in the Black and Gold.
Anyone that wouldn't give Mendy straight up for MJD is crazy, and that's without taking Mendy's knee injury into consideration. M J D has been one of the best backs in the NFL for a while. I'd take him in a second.
