    Chew on this: Immigration Gumball

This YouTube video (below) which has been viewed by 3.1 million people, features Roy Beck, executive director of Numbers USA, graphically illustrating what the Census Bureau says will happen by the middle of the next century if the U.S. refuses to change its current immigration policy.

The U.S. population has doubled since 1970, largely as a result of letting in one million foreigners annually. If immigration continues at today’s rate, Beck says, our population will quadruple and every community in America will have to grapple with the same problems now facing California, where “an entire elementary school has to be built every day in perpetuity to keep up with demand.”

Beck uses gumballs to show that even if that happens, the effect on worldwide poverty will still be negligible. “There are many ways America can help the Third World,” he says, “but immigration is not one of them.”

america is definitely bad but the rest of the world is even worse off. all this info is really nothing new and shouldnt come to a suprise to anyone. i was taught these basic fundamentals of life in early science and so should everyone. we've been on this exponential growth chart for years and nobody but biologists and other scientists have really taken notice.

regardless of what anyone says, the chart eventually does come crashing back down to earth. whether it be war, plagues, famine it is eventually gonna happen.

we are at the breaking point.

Beck's point is pretty streamlined. We cannot sustain these levels of immigration. It serves nobody if our Republic fails. A strong US is in a better position to help the third world as we have done for decades.

I'm against it, look what it did to the White house.

    Re: Immigration

Actually, a proper immigration policy including securing the border and allowing many people to enter our country is a good thing. If a majoity of the people that come in are not sick and broke, but instead work and start new businesses- it would be the best thing.

Allowing groups of Chinese, Indians, and Hispanics who want to contribute to our society could literally dig us out of the housing slump in a year. The economy is stuttering now, but is rebounding as I write this. However, absorbing excess housing would solidify our economic rebound and again make us the envy of the world.

    Re: Immigration

You know...in regards to the immigration issue. I would truly like to hear from our members that live in border states.

    Specifically:
How does "illegal" immigration affect your state?
How does "illegal" immigration affect you personally?
Based on your experience...what do you believe should be done about our immigration issues?
Please be specific. Do you support healthcare for illegal immigrants? Social security numbers being issued?

Please understand...If I am using the wrong words to ask these question..I dont mean to offend...correct me and let me know where you are coming from. I think this would go a long way in helping the rest of the board understand why/why not those who are most affected ...do or do not support immigration reform.
