Don't forget the Eagles play a wide 9, a very uncommon defense. They come fast and furious on the outside, it's nothing like what these guys have seen in camp or OTA's against the Steelers standard 3-4. You have to block angles more than brunt, as you normally would.
In other words they weren't prepared for what the Eagles do this time. Remember in pre season you don't game plan against specific opponents, you just go in and do what you've been working on in camp.
Kinda stupid when you think about it, particularly when you've got your season in the form of number 7 hanging around back there.
But in a nut shell last night wasn't a real reflection of anything other than a total unfamiliarity with the wide 9 by the line collectively. I'm glad we played these guys in Pre season. On film you just can't get a feel for the difference, the way you have to take away angles, and get away clean with speed from the line.
When we play these guys in Pittsburgh I think we'll be a lot better prepared. And yes I know the Eagles were missing their top two edge rushers, but really the system is what makes Trent Cole special, not vice versa.
