    Revamped Steelers straddling eras

    Some changes are subtle, occurring only gradually. Others are taking place in plain sight before anyone who pulls on a black and gold T-shirt and treks to Latrobe for the almost-daily practices at St. Vincent College.

    This is the summer of evolution for the Steelers, a seismic shifting that could affect the way NFL football in Pittsburgh is played for years to come.

    The team of the 2000s, which prospered at the end of the Bill Cowher era and the start of the Mike Tomlin reign, is irrevocably giving way to the core unit that could play out the rest of the 2010s. It’s not just the faces that are changing; the Steelers’ very way of operating is undergoing alteration, too.
