    Re: RIP Obamacare

I think he wants to hold some of this back for the debates. I believe the first is October 3rd. There's no sense blowing his wad over this. Obama has plenty of failure to attack and exploit, and the closer to the day people vote the better. He's already started to clarify this as a key difference from his own, fits-one-state plan in that his was DEFINITELY a penalty, and this is now definitely a TAX. Before, this was a stalemate issue as most voters are simply not astute enough to understand the myriad differences between Romneycare and Obamacare, and they probably both would have just let the sleeping dog lie. Now Romney has an opening to take advantage of...

I've been reading more on this...I see some estimates that of the 30 million who aren't covered now, this MAY only cover as few as 4 million of them (although all the taxes and high sticker price won't drop). When this whole debate started most people glossed over the fact that this wasn't needed, and maybe THAT argument can be resurrected. Of the 30 million, about a third are illegals. They should NEVER fall under any governmnet sponsored health plan, as they are, you know, ILLEGALLY HERE! Then there's a third who are already eligible for some kind of care, the very, very poor, who either don't realize they can sign up or are just too lazy to do so.

Then there's the third I have the biggest problem with, the third who CAN afford this, but just won't. Even a family of 4 can buy catastrophic coverage (high deductible) insurance rather cheaply. It's all I had until I turned 40. I had a 5k deductible, and there was a surprising amount of things that came with it without even a co-pay. It was like $30 a month. There are many, many, many families out there who CHOOSE not to prioritize healthcare. They have big HDTV's, and 500 cable channels, and drive a nicer car than they need to, and drinks their Starbucks 20 days a month, and so on and so forth...they can afford insurance if they wanted to, but they don't want to so they don't. Now we ALL (well, those of us who pay taxes anyway, and I'll end up getting double-dinged since I now have what's considered a "Cadillac Insurance plan") all get to pitch in and pay for their Starbuck's and HDTV's and nice cars.

    Re: RIP Obamacare

    Repeal? OK.

What do we replace it with?

    7 core "pillars"

    http://www.ohio.com/editorial/kevin-...-what-1.318426

-One, “move American health care away from open-ended government subsidies and tax breaks, and toward a defined-contribution system.” Health coverage would come from competing insurance plans, and government would make a fixed contribution toward each person’s insurance purchase — tax credits for most taxpayers, and more generous subsidies for those on Medicaid and Medicare.

-Two, forget the coercive individual mandate. Instead, the government promises that individuals won’t face the high premiums associated with costly illness providing they stay enrolled in health insurance.

-Three, recognize the varied demographics and economic conditions in the states and give them leeway in implementing any new programs. Set guidelines but allow as much flexibility as possible.

-Four, move toward individual federal tax credits for health care and away from a policy that favors employer-sponsored health plans which distort the market, limit portability and the transparency of costs, and discriminate against lower-income workers and employees of small businesses.

-Five, work with states to reform Medicaid so recipients no longer have to refuse jobs for fear of losing health insurance, or be discriminated against by care providers who won’t accept Medicaid because reimbursement rates are too low.

-Six, gradually reform fee-for-service Medicare to a premium-support plan, leaving current and near-term recipients with no changes, but phasing in a market approach similar to Medicare’s prescription-drug program. This would ensure the system outlasts the baby boomers, who will boost Medicare enrollment from 47 million to more than 80 million by 2030.

-Seven, offset new costs — especially the subsidies and tax breaks — with spending cuts elsewhere. Even “replace” won’t be cheap.

    Re: RIP Obamacare

    The mess that is Obamacare:

-13,000 pages of new regulations (so far...still being written)
-Addition of at least 180 new boards, commissions and bureaus
-Ridiculous amount of power being handed to the Secretary of Health and Humans Services: The term "the Secretary shall determine" is written 1,563 times in the bill
-21 new or higher taxes, at least 7 of which apply to individuals making $250k or less
-Medical Itemized Deduction threshold moved form 7.5% of adjusted gross income to 10%...so it's now that much harder to claim medical expenses on your taxes.

But is not the whole intent no medical expenses for the masses?

Our threshold in Canada is 3% of net income. Imagine that, even Canadians have medical expenses. Coverage is decreasing year by year. Hmmm, imagine that, socialists can't deliver on their promises. Government does not have a bottomless pit of money.

    Re: RIP Obamacare

YOU ARE NOT GOING TO LIKE THIS...

At age 76 when you most need it, you are not eligible for cancer treatment

    see page 272

What Nancy Pelosi didn't want us to know until after the healthcare bill was passed. Remember she said, "We have to pass the Bill so that we can see what's in it."

    **
Page 50/section 152: The bill will provide insurance to
all non-U.S. residents, even if they are here illegally.

    **
Page 58 and 59: The government will have real-time access to an
individual's bank account and will have the authority to make
electronic fund transfers from those accounts.

    **
Page 65/section 164: The plan will be subsidized (by the
government) for all union members, union retirees and for
community organizations (such as the Association
of Community Organizations for Reform Now -
    ACORN).

    **
Page 203/line 14-15: The tax imposed under this section
will not be treated as a tax. (How could anybody in their
right mind come up with that?)

    **
Page 241 and 253: Doctors will all be paid the same
regardless of specialty, and the government will set all
    doctors' fees.

    **
Page 272. section 1145: Cancer hospital will ration care
    according to the patient's age.

    **
Page 317 and 321: The government will impose a prohibition on
hospital expansion; however, communities may petition for an
    exception.

    **
Page 425, line 4-12: The government mandates advance-care
planning consultations. Those on Social Security will be
required to attend an "end-of-life planning" seminar every five
    years. (Death counseling..)

    **
Page 429, line 13-25: The government will specify
which doctors can write an end-of-life order.

Finally, it is specifically stated that this bill will not apply to members of Congress.
