2001 draft re-do: How do you rank Tomlinson, Brees, Vick?

LaDainian Tomlinson's retirement Monday has us reminiscing about the 2001 NFL Draft, and whether L.T. was the best player to emerge from it. His competition? Drew Brees and Michael Vick. If you were re-doing the 2001 draft, in what order would L.T., Brees and Vick come off your board?

Looking back, if you're starting a team, I think Brees has to go one. But after that? I'd take Justin Smith, Steve Hutchinson, and Tomlinson even before considering Vick.

Drew Brees is easily No. 1 and L.T is easily number 2

After he can have a debate

Vick gets pushed out of the top 10 and maybe even the top 20 if there were enough players. Vick only had 3 or 4 good years in the NFL. Brees is no. 1 because of the importance of a franchise QB following LT. It is amazing that the Chargers had Brees and LT on the same team and then let Brees walk for Phillip Rivers.

Nobody would have thought that Brees would be good like that after the 2003 season.

But if the chargers would still have confidence in Drew Brees, the Chargers would probably have drafted Larry Fitzgerald in 2004 and the chargers would have been unstoppable from 2004 to 2007 with LT, Brees, Gates and Fitzgerald

With that kind of fantasy logic we could dream of how many SB trophies the Steelers would have if they drafted Dan Marino.

Justin Smith, LaDainian Tomlinson, Drew Brees, Richard Seymour, Marcus Stroud, Leonard Davis, Steve Hutchinson, Casey Hampton, Reggie Wayne, Todd Heap, Chad Johnson, Matt Light...I think you could make a legitimate argument for any of those players over Michael Vick with hindsight being 20/20.
