Feds want to ban children from farm chores

    By Patrick Richardson

A proposal from the Obama administration to prevent children from doing farm chores has drawn plenty of criticism from rural-district members of Congress. But now it’s attracting barbs from farm kids themselves.

The Department of Labor is poised to put the finishing touches on a rule that would apply child-labor laws to children working on family farms, prohibiting them from performing a list of jobs on their own families’ land.

Under the rules, children under 18 could no longer work “in the storing, marketing and transporting of farm product raw materials.”

“Prohibited places of employment,” a Department press release read, “would include country grain elevators, grain bins, silos, feed lots, stockyards, livestock exchanges and livestock auctions.”

Apparently, the kids are taking jobs away from illegal immigrants.

    This is actually old news...

But it's obviously still ruffling feathers.

Farmers are overwhelming GOP voters, so Hopey could care less about their business or their opinion...

No, it's fine...that was way back on November. It serves as a reminder just how bad of a President this guy really is...

Though some would have you believe Romney would try to do the same.

At this point, why doesn't the fed ban everything and just un-ban the few things we can still do (for now)?

    Thanks, zu.

Regarding the topic, I'm not sure what frustrates me more ... the way the government continues to overstep its authority or the way we continue to allow it.

This goes beyond "farms". Just off the top of my head. If you have kids mow your lawn(farm), weed whip. Not anymore.
