Donovan McNabb: “I would vote for myself for the Hall of Fame”

Donovan McNabb’s career may be over, as he hasn’t drawn any interest from any teams since the Vikings released him late last year. If his career is over, McNabb believes he belongs in the Pro Football Hall of Fame’s class of 2017.

McNabb said on the online interview show Barfly that he thinks there’s no question that he should be in the Hall of Fame.

“Absolutely,” McNabb said. “See, one thing that people don’t realize — I never played the game to make it to the Hall of Fame. I played the game because I love it. I played the game to win. I’m a competitor. When I step out on the field, I feel like I’m the best player on the field. Even these last two years, when people may look at it and say, ‘Oh, he’s done, or whatever.’ I’m 34, 35 years old but still, I played at the pinnacle, I played at the highest level of my career. I played there. And I would vote for myself for the Hall of Fame.”

McNabb said he thinks the reason a lot of people don’t view him as a Hall of Famer is that he doesn’t have a Super Bowl ring, and he said that’s an unfair standard to use in judging quarterbacks.

“Peyton never won the big game until he won the Super Bowl finally. Dan Marino never won the big game. But does that mean his career is a failure? No. Not at all,” McNabb said. “When you sit and look at the numbers — and that’s what it is when it comes to the Hall of Fame — my numbers are better than Jim Kelly, better than Troy Aikman, better than a lot of guys in the Hall of Fame, but the one thing they do have is a Super Bowl.”

And one thing they have is you never hear them say they would vote themselves in because they did not need to. I would vote Kurt Warner in before McNabb and Warner is no guarantee.

McNabb doesn't belong in the Hall of Fame. I'd put him one or possibly even two rung's down the ladder from what I consider great. Forget his numbers, he was on a pass happy team in a pass happy era. So when invokes players like Jim Kelly and Troy Aikman it's a joke.

Yeah he got his team's close, but the guy always choked when it mattered most. He wasn't a big game or big moment player. He doesn't belong in the Hall of Fame.

The guy didn't even know there were ties in football.

And it's the HALL OF FAME, not the Hall of Good. He was a good QB, but he isn't one of the great's.

I used to defend Donaven because I didn't think the Philthy fans gave him enough credit. He was a very good qb. If you look at his early career he was on a path to be a HOF qb. Getting to 5 NFC Championship games is a accomplishment in and of itself. Still, I think he is a little short. One SB victory would have put him over the top, for me. As for his recent comments, he is quickly eroding all the respect I had for him. Stop being bitter ex- football player, Donavan.

His TD/INT ratio is a solid literal 2/1 (234/117), but his QBR is a little weak at 85.6 and his completion percentage is a very Kordell Stewart-esque 59%.

His regular season w/l is a pretty good at something like .651, but here's the clincher: Only 9-7 in the playoffs and no rings. The only mitigating factor I can see is that for huge swaths of his career, he never really had top-notch WR's to throw to. A guy here or there, but there was never any "Aikman/Irvin" or Young/Rice" or "Manning/Harrison" combination in Philly.

Still, no rings means no go.

    No.

For a qb that didn't win a championship to get in the HOF they have to have AMAZING statistics. Like Marino, Moon, and Tarkenton. McNabb is no where near those 3 guys thats for sure.

I wouldn't vote for D-Mac. He was good, but he didn't have the longevity. A lot of elite quarterbacks are still going at his age. McNabb was a washed up has-been in his early 30s.

A true great doesn't have to tell you they're a great, and leaves it for others to make their case. .
