Madden: Wallace wants to be a star, not a Steeler

Ok... If you want to keep your blood pressure down, don't read.

He's entitled to his opinion, but I'd like to ask him what the purpose was behind even mentioning Hines Ward in this piece. Was it just to take that shot? If so, then who is the real phoney?

Madden writes these articles for one reason, and one reason only: Two get people pissed off and talking. When you get pissed off at him, and start posting or talking about it, you play right into his hands. His articles have nothing to do with football knowledge, he has no special insight or insider info, and he mostly relies on twisting stories to create controversy. What is the point of even reading drivel like this?

I'm going to get beat up for this...but I agree with some of what he said. It is evident that Wallace just wants to be paid, if you deny that, than you arent paying attention.

However, I clump this in with the couple of posters I have on "ignore" on this board. I'm sure some of what they come up with has some validity, but the overwhelming majority of what they type is so unjustifiably biased or condescending or just plain wrong that it poisons the fruit of the whole tree.

Including the part where he held out, right Madden? You know, the Steelers' way!

He also loves tearing away at the fabric of the Steelers. Except for Ben, who he has an obvious man crush on.

I love the Pens as much as the Steelers. But it's not my job to be critical of either. However it is Madden's job,( when it's appropriate) and as harsh as he generally is about all things Steelers, he's just the opposite with the Pens. He's so far up Mario's ass I'm surprised his new statue doesn't have Madden's head protruding from it.

    x2.

    The point is this....

People (in all walks of life) are becoming more and more GREEDY and Self-Centered and losing (or not even getting) what Loyalty and family life (Steeler traditions) are all about. ie...Reality TV !

Wallace shot himself in the foot when he went Public with his GREED. Greed is always a down fall.

You have to remember too that Rookies and 1st year Players like Pouncey and Gilbert are still very, very young men.

How wise were YOU at their age ? Now they have instant Public communication to vent their emotions! We all witness the damage that can be done.

GREED != Getting paid what the market will give you.

If you get offered a job at another company 50% more than you're making now, is it self-centered greed and disloyalty that will make you pack up and go?

If the Steelers matched the offer he'll get from another franchise, I'm sure he'd be quite willing to stay.

Things I agree with in this article:

    1. Players and Twitter are like drinking and driving, they don't mix.

    2. 50 Mill does seem like a lot of money for a receiver that gets as few touches and yards as he did down the stretch, regardless of how he's being used (and I'm one of those that think using him as a decoy IS worth a good amount of money).

    3. I do worry about a leadership void on this team, as the core that came together in the hallways of a Miami hotel, playing flashlight wars during a hurricane with a rookie Ben R., are now all but gone. It was that core that took us to three Superbowls. Can it be reestablished?

Things I disagree with in this article.

Naa... It's Madden. This list would be too easy.

I hate Madden but he does make some good points, as Preacher said above. I really do think that teams have to start protecting players from themselves by banning them from Twitter.

"Wallace, sadly, seems to personify a new breed of Steeler. He hasn't won anything, yet displays inflated ego and arrogance."

New breed of Steeler? Did the guy not know Plaxico Burress used to be on the team?

Anyway, you can't get too worked up about this. It was designed to stir the pot, nothing else. Although if the part about Larry Fitzgerald money turns out to be true, he's probably correct that Wallace won't be here too much longer.

Also, it's becoming really clear that what's going to hurt our chances is not so much the Megatron contract or what Fitzgerald was already getting paid ... but the Vincent Jackson contract, the DeSean Jackson contract, the Pierre Garcon contract, etc. Franchise tag for receivers next year is probably going to be something like $13M.

If Wallace's interest in a bigger pay day takes him somewhere else then I wish him the best.

With or without Wallace the Steelers will continue to adapt and win. It is their way.

Let's be honest...all the way down to Tyler Grisham, which player doesn't want Larry Fitzgerald money? The list of players that doesn't can probably be counted on 2 hands. That's a silly statement to begin with...

    No it isn't.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Greed

    Greed

As a secular psychological concept, greed is, similarly, an inordinate desire to acquire or possess more than one needs or deserves.

    See that last word ?
    DESERVES !

Wallace is not close (yet ?) to playing Larry Fitzgerald's caliber. So far he is a one trick pony.

To ask (not merely wanting ) Fitz's $$$. Is arrogant as hell and just plain GREEDY.

We were all young and stupid once to.

I'm 99% sure that Madden actually posts on some of these boards. I believe he was "Disgrace" and Disgrace #2" at SN. All his posts are so negative and gloomy he makes Steeldude look like Mary Poppins.

It makes sense. Test out your material on the MB crowd, find out what makes them REALLY angry, then hone your attack and send it to print. His goal has nothing to do with uncovering truth or telling any kind of useful story, he just wants readers, and then readers for those to talk about him.

well everyone can rip me all you want and I understand it ( cause most of the time Madden is a fucking Retard... but out of everything I ever seen this guy write... this is the one time the guy is right on the money... On the money with every point he just made.. I hope Dan coming back to the team day to day can get someones attention.. Steeler Players are held to a different Standard.. The Shit Pouncey and Gilbert did should have and would have been taken care of ASAP ( From a Cowher or Noll Team ) Mike is to close to the guys thats for sure.. but so far its worked for him from a respect stand point.. Lets just hope he dont lose the team letting them get by with B.S like that...

No matter how you look at it Madden ( even being the pus he is ) pretty much hit the nail on the head for maybe the first time that I can think of .

I don't know about Wallace, but at least it looks as if Emanuel Sanders is embracing Steeler tradition. Here he is with Jack Lambert. Dude still looks scary!
