Well, they just did draft one out of Texas Tech and have a couple coming through the minors as we speak. On top of that, our new SS Jordy Mercer is a big bat. I hope he'll be in the line up more often. With that in mind, I don't think they will.

I feel like with our pitching being very good this year a good rbi guy is the one thing we are missing for a playoof run.

It would be great to have one, but I don't see the Pirates doing it.

Bucs take 2 of 3 from the Reds. Back 2 in the Central.

Back-to-back Winning Series on the road against two tough opponents. Taking the series against the Brewers at Miller Park was big, since the Pirates have been Milwaukee's punching bag for years now.

To add on to that, not only have they won these two series back to back on the road, but they've now won FOUR series in the row, all against NL Central rivals. First the Cubs, then Reds, then Brewers, and finally against the Reds tonight. This game went down to the wire. Blow for blow, it was like a game of chess, but we had the final blow. Good job for everyone sticking in there and giving Kevin another win. Back to Pittsburgh to play the Royals.

Great article about Clint Hurdle by Dejan Kovacevic:

CINCINNATI — Clint Hurdle is a difficult man to describe to those who don't deal with him regularly. But I won't lie: I had set out this week to pen what I hoped would be a definitive, detailed, adjective-laced column on the personality of the Pirates' manager.

    And I decided against it.

If only because others could do it so, so much better ...

Don't look now folks, but your Buccos are 4 games over .500 and just a game out of first place...in June. Personally, it's amazing to me how well they've done despite having next to no offense until the last couple of weeks (12 straight games of 4+ runs scored, translating into a 9-3 record...coincidence? I don't think so). I'm still waiting for the inevitable collapse, because just like last season, the pitching is eventually going to run out of steam and I'm not expecting the offense to be able to carry the load.

I'm just enjoying it! For the first time in awhile I think we have a decent shot at breaking .500 and who knows, once they get a taste of winning if the get the division lead they might make a run for a playoff spot. we lucky don't have a very tough division so as long as we hold on for awhile we will stay in the race.

But what if there isn't a collapse? What if they finish strong this year and having a winning record or are close to it? I know its early, but lets at least enjoy it now if another collapse happens.

Then of course I'll stand up and cheer all night long. But the Pirates were in first place and had won 54 games in late July last year...then won just 18 games the rest of the season. I'll believe they won't collapse when it actually doesn't happen. Until then, I will enjoy the ride.

Just looking at their upcoming schedule:

    3 at O's
    3 at Indians
    3 vs Twins
    3 vs Tigers
    4 at Phillies
    3 at Cards

If they win 6 of those 19 games, I'll be stunned. That is a BRUTAL schedule.

I wouldn't be worried about the O's, their collapse is coming soon enough. Twins are one of the worst teams in the majors, but the rest do look tough.

The tigers, the cardinals and phillies are not playing well right now..... The twins are a bad team.

The Pirates can have a good record in the next 19 games. But I can be wrong

The Pirates may collapse. Maybe not.

All you can do is enjoy it while it lasts at this point. That's the most we can do.

The Pirates might actually be buyers in the trade market this year

Normally at the trade deadline, the Pittsburgh Pirates turn into a de facto minor league team for big-market teams like the Red Sox and Yankees.

This year, it looks like the roles could be reversing, with the Pirates currently leading the NL Central, and the Red Sox sitting in last place in the AL East.

As of right now, the Pirates are one of a few teams reportedly interested in Red Sox 1B/3B Kevin Youkilis.

Red Sox GM Ben Cherington has said that Youkilis isn't on the market, but any knowledgeable baseball fan could take one look at the Red Sox and see that Cherington is lying through his teeth.

What does everyone think of this? I wouldn't exactly call this a reliable source so it could be completely made up. I just checked his stats and he's only hitting .231. Does anyone think if he does come and play for the Pirates that he would actually have more hits because he's playing in a weaker division?

No way, I'll be there tomorrow too! I have a feeling its going to happen or they won't finish number one in the division. I guess we'll see.

being in a weaker division could possibly give him more confidence. He does have a better BA then Alvarez right now...still dont know how I feel about it though.

This years' Pirates are further along than last years team.

The 2011 Team didn't get above .500 until late June. So there's something a little different this year. I don't know if this team has enough to get it into the upper-echelon, but I think it's evidence that the 2011 team's surge was no fluke. For the first time in years, we have a Pirates squad with potential. This team has the potential to be something great, but time will tell if it's ever realized.

Youkilis would be a good pickup just for his intensity and leadership.

Good God, are Lincoln and Resop the two worst effing pitchers on the team or what? Lincoln is better off as a reliever because he is AWFUL as a starter, and Resop needs to be released ASAf'nP. Could be the beginning of their annual free-fall into oblivion, but I really, really hope they prove me wrong.

I don't think they are ready to fall. Although they are due to cool off a bit. I don't see the injuries piling up this year - as of yet at least. Also, the pitching staff is deeper this year.

Well, after going to the game last night, it was okay at best. Camden Yards is a beautiful ballpark and one that everyone should go see. There was quite a few Pirates fans and once again, they made me proud by showing our class when some of the obnoxious Beltway fans started acting up. Overall, majority of the O's fans were respectful. Our fans had a good time, were very respectful, and a few were really funny. Anyways to the game, wasn't exactly their best game, but they did almost have a comeback. Lincoln was picked apart from the get go and was the entire time he pitched. Resop who is usually good was not good last night and I don't know what he was thinking when he made that horrible throw to first which made the runners advanced. I hope they come back and get today and tomorrow.
