Of Mike Holmgren and sour grapes

I play fantasy football. I know a lot of you guys do, too. You ever have a trade go down in your league that really ticked you off because you thought you'd made a better offer and the guy just wanted to make a deal with his friend or his brother or his cousin or something like that?

    [+] Enlarge
AP Photo/Tony GutierrezCleveland president Mike Holmgren says the Redskins had an advantage in completing their trade with the Rams for the No. 2 pick in the draft, expected to be used for QB Robert Griffin III.

Yeah, that's pretty much what Cleveland Browns team president Mike Holmgren says happened with the trade between the St. Louis Rams and the Washington Redskins that allowed the Redskins to move up to the No. 2 pick in this year's draft. Jamison Hensley has the rundown on the AFC North blog:
In a conference call with Browns season-ticket holders today, Holmgren said "a very close relationship" between the Rams and Redskins prevented Cleveland from moving two spots up in the draft. Holmgren didn't go into specifics about the relationship, but it's well-known that Rams coach Jeff Fisher and Redskins coach Mike Shanahan are close friends............

If Mike Holmgren did half as much scouting as he does complaining perhaps his rosters would be a little better.

    One thing is sure.

    The Browns also wanted RGIII.

I've read that the team is supposedly confident in McCoy but how is that possible if they were clearly set on RGIII?

And if anybody knows about sour grapes, it's the Walrus in Cleveland who couldn't even shake Cowher's hand after Super Bowl XL.

I wonder if RGIII is stupid enough to run into James Harrison's zone with the ball?

He's just trying to appease the Browns fans. If anyone seriously thinks that the Rams wouldn't have rather had the #4 pick instead of the #6 pick, they're an idiot. The truth is that the Rams told all of the teams to submit their BEST offers and then they would choose. All of the teams submitted offers and the best one was from the Redskins. After the Rams accepted the Redskins offer, the Browns tried to sweeten their offer and were turned away.

The Browns are so desperate for a QB that I wouldn't be surprised to see them take Tannehill at #4.

where is this Tannehill hype coming from btw? Never saw much of his games but he never seemed like a top 10 talent, and you didn't even hear his name much last year either

seems like another Blaine Gabbert in the making

He's been flying up the ratings for some reason. My guess is that there's so many teams desperate for a QB and with Luck and Griffin already 'gone', Tannehill's value is getting inflated big time.

And if a team is dumb enough to take him in the first round, much less the top ten, they are going to have a colossal bust on their hands.

From what I saw of him, I was never really impressed. I wouldn't take him in the first round at all. That's too much pressure on the coaching staff to put him in right away. Now let him sit a couple of seasons and give him practice reps, I think he can become a good QB. However, a first rounder, he'll end up a bust.

Tannehill ran something pretty close to a WCO in college. He's good, but a reach at #4.

I could maybe see this at #22. The Browns need a RB, too. Montario Hardesty can't go three games in a row without being injured.

Either way, the way things are shaping up we can probably count two solid "W's" a year out of Cleveland at least for the time being...

He put up good stats against horrible defenses, but what didn't impress me was his decision making. From what I saw of him, a lot of his interceptions looked to be dumb interceptions. Every QB throws some dumb interceptions at times. But under pressure, his decision making looked like it broke down. If that's how he reacts to Big 12 defenses...how is he going to do against the Steelers, Ravens, and Bengals?
