Source: Ravens to hire Jim Caldwell

Former Indianapolis Colts head coach Jim Caldwell plans to join the offensive coaching staff of the Baltimore Ravens, a league source told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter.

The Ravens announced last week that Cam Cameron would return as offensive coordinator, but they still need a quarterbacks coach for Joe Flacco. Caldwell now appears to be the choice.

He is going to clash with Harbaugh. No way he lasts. Harbaugh is and never will be a Tony Dungy.

With this move, Baltimore seems to be moving to a passing offense where Flacco is the centerpiece, despite having already seen countless times that when the Ravens go away from the run (Ray Rice) and opt for throwing, they have a hard time on offense. I hope they do that. Keep the ball out of the hands of your best playmaker (Rice) so Flacco can shine. Good luck with that.

But hey, at least Caldwell's not coming here.

Let's hope this means Flacco will be given full control, so we can see the Ravens become a huge disappointment next year, especially since Flacco will not play crappy defenses that use backup WRs as defensive backs such as New England's every week

Caldwell is only going to be the QB coach. Just how much weight do you guys think that position carries? I mean, Arians was Peyton Manning's QB coach for three years, but in that capacity it was expedient to claim that the position meant nothing (obviously because to claim that that it DID would be to give some credit to Arians). Now, the position seems to carry all kinds of weight because it's a different team, and, more importantly, NOT in any way possible to even accidentally credit Arians.

I think the Ravens are looking at this as he coached the Colts to a Super Bowl and was Peyton Manning's QB coach, so me must be a good hire.

What exactly did he do as Manning's QB coach? Manning didn't need much coaching, hell he was basically their offensive coordinator throughout most of his career.

And Joe Flacco is no Peyton Manning.
