One of the more bizarre head coaching hires I can remember. Very little NFL experience...arguably none. Coming from a Rutgers program that had how much success? Weird.
Better hire a couple of guys with some serious NFL experience as coordinators.
Nobody knows how much of a great job did with Rutgers. I sat face to face with him during my 'college decision' course and the guy is animated and fiery, and best of all he makes you believe in his system and it has worked. Im happy for him, but Im also sad for my friend Big Jorge Vicioso since Schiano was the main reason he went there. I hope Rutgers hires a good coach and not some dead beat.
I know a good O coordinator that could use a job. Maybe a spot open in Tampa?
Whatever happened to Pete Carroll?

Not really. He had one good season in 2006. Nothing else special about his career in Jersey. He has almost no NFL experience and if they don't surround him with NFL experience, Tampa will be a mess. On paper, its not a good hire for the Buccaneers. I'm not going to write him off, but in the big scheme, it's a weird hiring.
I am not sure about this hire. I remember Rutgers being good when Ray Rice was making plays on them for offense, but since then what have they done?

Then we can write off Tampa as a playoff contender until Arians gets fired.
I honestly do not see the Schiano hiring working out. College head coach have a rather low success rate in the pros and this guy's career at Rutgers as fairly memorable. Rutgers has remained in obscurity since 2006
Rutgers was a doormat forever. He put the program on the map.

I think its a good move for him. It was well known that he was kind of holding out for the job in Happy Valley as his "dream job". But I guess since that place has gone to total Shiiit...with you know...the looking the other way by the entire campus to a Child Rapist amongst them...I suppose Schiano decided to look at other options.
SuperBowl Wins - How many does YOUR team have? Steelers 6, 49ers 5, Cowboys 5, Packers 4, Giants 4, Pats 4, Redskins 3, Raiders 3, Broncos 2, Dolphins 2, Colts 2, Ravens 2, Bears 1, Jets 1, Bucs 1, Rams 1, Chiefs 1, Saints 1, Hawks 1
Why do people constantly need to complain and argue about every little thing?
11 years ago, Rutgers was, bar none the hands down worst football program in D1. From 1984 until Schiano took over, they were 67-114. The coach before him was 11-44. The whole program was a trainwreck. He bolstered recruiting, and actually led the Knights to a winning record in his tenure, six seasons of winning records, as well as a bowl record of 5-1 when he was there. He's also started a pipeline of NFL talent that was non-existent at Rutgers.
The guy is a good coach.

I tend to agree with Suit, the guy can coach football. Rutgers is actually recognizable as a football team now when they take the field and not a hapless bunch of losers that they were before he took over the job. Not sure that his coaching will translate to NFL wins, but its got to be better than the train wreck that was the Tampa team this last season. That team flat out Quit at the end of the year, lost 10 in a row and a ton of game by more than 30 points. Horribly coached team in 2011 season.

He can go into the learn as you go program. Should be good for up to four wins next season.
