Steelers run game lacks results this season

There were dropped passes and penalties, including a silly one for having too many men in the huddle.

But what irked Bruce Arians most about an offense that managed only one touchdown last Sunday in Kansas City is that the Steelers averaged 3.9 yards per carry.

"It's got to pick up for us to be where we want to be," the Steelers' offensive coordinator said Thursday. "It's not the number of carries, it's the quality of the carries. When we run it, we have to run it better."

Sledding for the Steelers' running backs may not get any easier Sunday...........

Arians is "irked" by 3.9 yards per carry?

I would be more concerned about our average inside the 5...I would imagine it is abysmal...

I sure do miss "the bus".I would love to see us run the ball more. Why not try to get J.D. some more chances to carry the ball?Oh well guess it is what it is.

Did you see Marshawn Lynch running last night? Now, that's how a power RB is supposed to play! We need more of that attitude like Denver's old one-cut-and-go philosophy.

Ive been watching the game film , and all I notice is O line playing high, not driving their feet (Kemo), not following through after 5 seconds, and Mendenhall besides dancing around, running just as high as the O line and thats where you can point out the beginning of the bad running game, another thing is the personnell aligned when we run the ball. That old power O where Kemo pulls gets old eventually. Its as if Arians is trying to trick the offense into "were gonna pass with 3 wide single back, instead of just lining up a double tight formation. Thats fine you dont like a fullback, dont use it, but at least put your team in a position where they can feel like a free man isnt gonna come into the backfield and blow the play up.

    I agree too.This is a problem since 2006.

Jerome Bettis was an automatic inside the 5 and I miss that!

Bettis also weighed 275 lbs if he weighed an ounce. He was the rarest commodity: a huge man who had feet like a ballet dancer. It's why he should be a HOF lock.

I was at that game sitting in the bleachers and the bus scored that TD right in front of me...never forget it....

Did you see Dan Krieder (you know, the FULLBACK) absolutely blow up the lead tackler on that play and drive him right off the screen?

But it Bettis which destroyed completely Brian Urlacher(Defensive player on the year in 2005) on to play!

Understatement of the year. It helps when your RB isn't either hit or forced to evade defenders 2-3 yards behind the line of scrimmage on a regular basis.

I don't understand why they don't use Redman more, especially in that short yardage situation....such as the run last week when Moore fumbled on the 2 yrd line. Geesh ! I'm still screaming ' WHY MOORE ' on that carry.

yep, and if fans rememeber correctly, when bettis was hit behind the scrimmage he generally went nowhere fast.

Couldn't believe how we committed to the run in the Red Zone on the first 2 scores. No razzle dazzle, just ram it down their throats. Was a joy to watch. Unfortunately, I had to go out for the rest of the game.

    And the amazing part?

It still counted for 6 points...just like the pass.

Only problem is, had we failed to score on those runs, people would be calling for Arians head.

If plays work, either Ben called them, or it was great work by the players, but if they DO NOT work, well, there's always an easy scapegoat for the intellectually lazy in Bruce Arians.

Yesterday's gameplan was no different than any other Sunday....the offensive line just happened to actually block, and once the receivers started actuality catching the ball, things really took off for the offense...

I agree 100% the gameplan was good enough AND the players execution was there too
