    Pirates sign catcher Barajas

The Pirates filled their hole at catcher, signing Rod Barajas to a one-year deal for 2012 with a club option for 2013, the club announced Thursday.

Barajas, 36, hit .230 with 16 home runs and 47 RBIs last season for the Los Angeles Dodgers.

36 year old catcher. How many games can he play? I'm sure those knees are awful tender at this stage of his career.

No, actually it's your typical Pirates signing - an old, washed-up, below-average player with an injury history. Meanwhile, Andrew McCutchen still hasn't been locked up long-term. Business as usual at 100 Federal St. Winning? Screw that - Baghdad Bob would rather just keep being mediocre-to-terrible so he can keep on cashing those big checks.

His stats are better than Doumit's, but you can't solely go by stats. I have no clue how good he is or even if he is.
