I'd disregard the title of the article, Frum makes some good points in the body of this presentation.

He was never going to be, sex scandal (alleged) or not.
Even Christine freaking O'Donnell, the freaky ex-witch TEA Party nut made a point about these elections that is incredibly valid. She said the TEA Party isn't giving Romney a fair shake, and that's not right because he's probably the only candidate who has the necessary campaign infrastructure to stand up to the Obama political attack machine (Don't underestimate it....it withstood and defeated the CLINTON political attack machine, the most vicious in the history of politics). NONE of these people, least of all Cain, could survive the assault.
In fact, Obama is so afraid of Romney in a general that he has already commissioned attack ads against him. There is only ONE reason Obama would attack Romney now, and that is to try and get him defeated in the primary, and there's only one reason he'd want Romney beat in the primary, and that's because he thinks Romney could beat HIM in a general.
Back to Cain...this guy is so inept, he actually blamed both Perry AND the left for "leaking" these allegations, although it is widely known among tons of people in the Restaurant Association that this stuff went down. Cain is essentially denying that any cub reporter with a laptop and cell phone could have easily drudged this up. Besides, why would the left try to discredit the most beatable possible candidate for the GOP in the last 50 years? They were PRAYING Cain would win the nomination. Obama would destroy him in a week...

Yep. By the end of the Primaries Obama will have an election war chest to stretch from here to the moon with enough info on the winner that might even include their DNA matrix. But I think the pivot in this election, esp. in the larger states, will be the Hispanic vote. It's amazing how many have become of voting age just since the 2008 election... Wow !
There's so many people that want Obama gone that just can't see the forest through the trees that you've alluded to here. If the collective electorate of the Republican Party can be made to understand this then perhaps we can go through the primary process without cannibalizing our all but certain nominee.
Yeah, as if.![]()
"A man's got to know his limitations."
I've heard that Ralph Nader wants in...that would peel off some of the more extreme left-wing voting bloc, even if he just runs as a write in.
But if the GOP somehow ends up nominating a nut or freak (i.e. Paul, Cain, Bachmann), we will deserve the inevitable thumping we'll take.

If Romney doesn't get the nomination, it will be because of irrational far right-wing conservatism, not double secret liberal manipulation. I think pre-GOP presidential candidate Romney was ideologically closer to moderate liberals than to the average conservative. He was, after all, the Governor of Massachusetts. Who knows what he actually believes now.
I agree. He's FORCED to move a little right because of the TEA party, but they all move back to the center after elected. Romney was already there...he just has to tweak his campaign message a little...
Outside of Romney, Perry is the only guy I can see competing on a national level in a general, but he would be SHREDDED by Obama in a debate. I don't see that...there are still like 9 debates left for the GOP. The field will whittle down. Eventually Perry will be shredded by Romney before it ever gets to that.
I think people forget that I was pretty much 100% against Romney when this whole process started...but he has improved his demeanor, and he's become very "presidential" IMO...plus he has the infrastructure. I'm a pragmatist....I want Obama out, and he gives us the best chance to overtake the WH AND keep a majority in the House (and maybe even unseating the D's from their Senate majority).

I thought Perry was already tagged and bagged...
But whatever happened to your man, Huntsman?
Not seasoned enough...he's like Romney in '08. Needs time, which he may (if Obama wins) or may not (if Romney wins) get.
I'm telling you though, a President who can speak Chinese fluently, and NOT need a translator when dealing with the Chinks (is that proper nomenclature or am I unPCly pissing off some people) would be a formidable weapon in our arsenal. I hope Romney wins and appoints him SecState...
Fire Goodell
I think Cain is slightly delusional...I actually think he believes that A) He IS electable and B) The left is out to get him. Today he said even more women will come forward, not because he's done anything, but because the the "liberal machine will do anything to keep a businessman out of the White House" (his words, not mine).
I don't believe I have EVER heard a guy say "There will be more women coming forward". Makes me think he knows there will be because he knows he sexually harassed more women....
Fire Goodell
Am I the only one who doesn't give two shits about this? I'm sorry.... I really don't care if he tried to diddle some woman/women 20-25 years ago, I really don't. All I care about is what his plans for fixing the mess this country is in, are. That's all I care about from any candidate, be they Dem or Repub.Makes me think he knows there will be because he knows he sexually harassed more women....

Sure, they are highly intelligent..... I would guess that most of the candidates are highly intelligent.... so what? Jimmy Carter was/is highly intelligent. Bill Clinton was/is highly intelligent. I'd even say that Barak Obama is highly intelligent. I would venture to say that quite a few past Presidents/politicians were capable too. What did any of them, or any other highly intelligent/capable politician ever fix?
I wish I could believe that these people we elect actually give a shit about this country and it's citizens, but I don't.

I don't know what to tell you...If you don't think Romney is better for the US than Obama.....................vote for Nader?
Fire Goodell
Look, I understand wanting to find a candidate that matches your personal politics as closely as possible. I also see that people would prefer to hold out for a candidate that is far more liberal or conservative than what is on the table. But the problem we're starting to see is a Congress that has huge numbers of people way out on the right wing and people way out on the left wing and they don't want to compromise at all on anything. It leads to gridlock. Electing a president from the fringe will make things even harder to get done, not easier.
Fire Goodell
I understand that none of us are going to get the perfect candidate. I agree with you that you have to put the candidate in office that meets enough of your criteria, even if they don't meet 100% of it.
I've become increasingly disallusioned over the past 20 years or so about politics and politicians in general. I am a registered Republican. I don't know what that means anymore. I find Republicans and Democrats (politicians) are the same slick, sweet talking, rhetoric driven, no clue having, self serving fools dressed in differnt clothing. I don't believe ANY of these men/women can or will fix any problems in this country...... it doesn't serve them to do so.
Unfortunately, there's now way they would double down on two Mormon's.
It'll almost have to be Romney/Rubio. Florida is the key state, and the Hispanic vote will be delivered by Rubio.
I like Huntsman as SecState, though..
By the way, Cain drops to third and Gingrich surges to second.
