Hillis Apologizes For Missing Kids' Halloween Party

BEREA, Ohio -- His image tattered, his reputation under attack, Browns running back Peyton Hillis tried to stiff arm past another mess in a season spiraling out of control.

Hillis apologized Wednesday for missing a Halloween party for kids that he was supposed to attend, blaming his unexcused absence on a miscommunication. Hillis failed to show up at the Boys & Girls Club on Monday to hand out candy to 50 children at the event, which was hosted by former Browns offensive lineman LeCharles Bentley, a club board member.

All I've heard from Hillis this year is injuries, underperforming, contract situation, agent telling him not to play and now this. Yikes!

    OMG

My one friend, she is in love with Hillis, so she's just blaming all this on the Madden Curse. I told her to have fun rooting for another team next year when he's playing somewhere else.

Honestly, who the hell is even going to want Hillis at the salary he thinks he's entitled to? This guy had a good run for about 6-8 games last year, came back to earth, and now thinks he's worth franchise back money? Good luck with that. I'll take Isaac Redman over him any day of the week.

To Peyton Hillis: Save some money, it's a short ride.

Another big back bites the dust.

PLEASE put Bettis in the HOF! How many times do we have to see 240 lb+ backs implode after a season or two before it becomes completely obvious that Bettis was a freak of nature...

As silly as this might sound, I've often wondered if the Steelers had been able to keep Neil O'Dummy around for a few more seasons, how good the Steelers might have been in 96-97? (Assuming they still went out and made the trade for Bettis) Seriously look how many games they won with the completely inept Mike Tomczak in 96, hell they even won a playoff game that year. Then in 97, Korkie throwing away the AFC championship game! Poor Jerome, anchored for most of his prime by worthless qb's!

The Madden Curse hits in a new way-he suddenly thinks that he's more than he is....Talk about being cheap & petty. Hope the fans run him out of town (as they are known to do) throw some dog biscuits his way whenever the prima donna decides to play again, that is.

Now he's going to miss another game. It wouldn't surprise me if he's already turned down the best contract offer he was ever going to see. Idiot.

Barring a significant turnaround, the Cleveland Browns are prepared to let running back Peyton Hillis walk after this season, The Plain Dealer reported Saturday, citing league sources.

"It's one thing after another, and what's been out there isn't even the half of it," one source told the newspaper.
"Guys are growing tired of the distractions and always wondering what's next," one Browns player told The Associated Press.

Backup quarterback Seneca Wallace confirmed a report that veteran Browns players belonging to the team's "leadership group" encircled Hillis for an intervention-style meeting this week to encourage him to remain focused on football.

"I think everybody's noticed a little bit of a change in him, but he could have some family issues or something," Wallace told The Plain Dealer. "Maybe his priorities have changed. We have a whole new staff, so a lot of things have changed. Maybe some of it's overblown."
