DRAFT: What's Your QB Ranking 1-6?
Seems that the QBs are the talk of the draft. If you're a GM, what does your QB board look like? I added a 6th one to see who your sleeper is.
Mine:
1. Lawrence (duh)
2. Fields (too much nit picking on him)
3. Wilson (very high ceiling)
4. Jones (not as bad of an athlete as made out. Cerebral)
5. Lance (boom or bust)
6. Mills (size, arm, athleticism)
What's yours?
Re: DRAFT: What's Your QB Ranking 1-6?
1. Lawrence ( as well said, DUH!)
2. Wilson
3. Mond
4. Newman
5. Fields
6. Jones/Trask (Either really, pick one)
All of these QBs have the physical traits. My ranking is based on what I have watched and read as far as their experience and processing.

This one wins the 'outside the box' award.
Re: DRAFT: What's Your QB Ranking 1-6?
1. Wilson
2. Mond
3. Lawrence
4. Lance
5. Jones
6. Fields
No rationale behind it other then a hunch, a guess and college/QB success at the NFL level.

So you'd be ecstatic if the Steelers take Mond at 24?

Not really because I think they have more pressing needs for 2021.

I still think any of these guys could win a starting role. Lance and Mills simply haven’t played enough football to make that list. Just my opinion. Like I said before in a different thread, predicting QBs is fun. It’s totally random at best.

Maybe I spoke too soon... 86 put Mond ahead of Lawrence!
Re: DRAFT: What's Your QB Ranking 1-6?
1. Lawrence
2. Wilson: Great arm and a high ceiling
3. Lance: Down from Wilson due to experience and collegiate level but the potential is there for him to be a real dynamite player
4. Fields: He's dynamic but not as high, and I don't think his ceiling is as high as those ahead of him. Plus, he's seemed to at least get himself banged up a couple times when I saw him
5. Jones: Can probably be a quality starter and not hold a team back, not sure he'll elevate a team in the pros.
6. Trask: Had a great year at Florida, a chance he could be at least a decent starter. Not worth taking before round 3
Everyone else is probably going to end up a journeyman backup or worse
Re: DRAFT: What's Your QB Ranking 1-6?
1. Lawrence
Duh. His skills are apparent. As important, he has had the spotlight on him for four years; so, he can handle the pressure.
2. Wilson
He has been my #2 for a long while. That said, the thing that could be scary about Wilson is that he falls apart against better competition. I know that Ben had a bad game against Iowa, but Wilson seems to struggle with ANY ranked team. In case you were wondering: at Texas Tech, Mahomes put up the same numbers game in and game out (which is true of QBs who transition into winners in the NFL).
3. Fields
When he is pressured, he falls apart. But, his downfield passing percentage is reeeally good; over the past few seasons, only Burrow had a better completion-percentage for long passes.
4. Mond
There is just something about him.
5. Lance
I was higher on him... until I saw his completion percentage for passes longer than ten yards: only 36%. :scared:
6. Jones
I think he is accurate and can be a "good" QB in the right system. I expect Belichick to trade up for him. But, there is nothing "special" about him.
7. Trask, Mills, Newman
These guys all have warts. Trask fell apart when he did not have Pitts; that said, he sure is accurate. Mills and Newman both have looked good, but there is not enough tape on them.

Like I said...it’s based on nothing but randomness, guess, hunch and college they went to. Could be 100% wrong...lol.
Re: DRAFT: What's Your QB Ranking 1-6?
Would actually be funny if someone undrafted or not on anyone’s list wound up being the best 6 years from now.

Actually wouldn’t surprise me. Let’s hope the Steelers get lucky and find him.

I just don't feel comfortable with Trey Lance at all for several reasons, but the big one is his completion % on throws over 10 yards and the fact that he never has thrown more than 20 passes in a single game. I've very rarely seen a QB who was inaccurate in college all of a sudden become an accurate passer in the NFL, and the windows are often much, much tighter at the pro level.

Is there a link for this 10+ yard completion percentage? This thread is the only place I've seen or heard this mentioned. And how does it compare with the other 4 of the top 5?

I heard Pat Kirwan talking about Lance a week or two ago on the NFL channel on Sirius radio. He went through all the reasons he felt uncomfortable about Lance, including his completion percentage on throws downfield and his accuracy. I can't say I saw this on paper or on any formal published statistic.

I heard the same broadcast.
Re: DRAFT: What's Your QB Ranking 1-6?
So who will be the next 3 QB's taken now that the top 5 guys are gone? I am thinking:
-Mills 2nd
-Mond 2nd
-Trask 3rd
- Newman 4th
- Book 4th

Which teams are in the market for the second tier QBs?
AFCE: none
AFCW: Maybe Broncos but they already have two 2nd tier QBs
AFCN: Steelers
AFCS: Texans (based on the volatility of the Watson situation)
NFCE: WFT
NFCW: none
NFCN: Maybe Lions, Vikings
NFCS: Bucs, Maybe Saints, Falcons
The way I see it, there are definitely 4 teams with another 4-5 maybes for a Day 2 QB.
I wouldn't mind taking Mills, Mond or Trask (in that order) in R3.

Bucky Brooks had the Raiders taking Ian Book in the 4th.
Mariota is on the last year of his deal. Derek Carr has 2 seasons left on his. Nathan Peterman is the #3 QB. IMO, a QB for the Raiders replaces Peterman in 2021, then possibly replaces Mariota as the backup in '22.
Steeler could, but I can see a scenario where next season Rudolph is under contract and Haskins shows enough this season that he gets a contract as well. I think 2022 has a chance where the Steelers could end up looking at guys like Bo Nix, Brock Purdy, Tanner Morgan and JT Daniels in the draft. I expect Sam Howell, Spencer Rattler, Kedon Slovis to be the top guys.

A few months back, I listed all of the QBs in the 2022 draft. The list is impressive. While there might not be as many "top tier" QBs as this draft, it will be a "R2 heavy" type of QB draft (lots of Tony Romo types).
My guess is that the Steelers draft local prospect: Kenny Pickett (at 32).
NOTE: Rattler is my favorite, but I'm not selling the farm to buy one cow.
