Steelers’ Coaching Staff Unchanged With College All-Star Games Looming
It’s been nearly two and a half weeks since the Pittsburgh Steelers 2019 season ended and so far, there’s been no news about any changes being made to the team’s coaching staff. Even Steelers special teams coordinator Danny Smith appears to be safe for 2020, judging by a little Tuesday news nugget.

Did anyone actually expect coaching changes to happen?? We're just the ignorant fan base.

Danny Smith...that’s all I ask...just get rid of Danny Smith...
I’ll accept a “Roethlisberger Pass” for the rest of them...but Danny Smith...he should’ve been gone years ago...

I've been with you on this forever. Sadly, I think DJ saved his job.

Maybe Ben's surgery was to graft adamantium to his throwing arm? Sweeeet!

Not surprised. Butler isn't going anywhere with the defense playing like last year, and neither is Fitchner. Face it, as long as Ben is on the team, Fitch has a job.

Re: Steelers’ Coaching Staff Unchanged With College All-Star Games Looming
But at least they did hire a QBs coach.
Did they ever hire a permanent receiver coach to replace Drake? Do you think we’ll make an outside hire?

I'm expecting a WR coach soon.

 Yep
Ray Sherman was brought in after Darryl Drake suddenly passed away. The Steelers had to act quickly; plus, at that point in the season, there wasn’t much of a selection left out there.
I expect someone (better) to brought in during the next few weeks.

Ike teaching WRs to catch with their hands is worthy of an SNL skit!

Actually Gay worked with the WRs and all the DBs in camp last summer. I think he’s going to be a good coach. Really smart guy.

Not surprising. He didn't have the natural talent of others and so, had to work that much harder to have the career he had. As I've noted before, it's my belief players like that make much better coaches than natural talents.

Or could it be that there is simply a much larger pool of players to choose from like Gay than those that are "natural talents".

That really doesn't change the fact that players who depend on skill rather than natural talent make better coaches in my opinion.

Honestly, they make for better analysts too IMO. Not that there aren't some good former players who excel, but some of the guys who were great offer no insight at all. NFL Network keeps hiring those bozos just because they were good/popular as players.

Re: Steelers’ Coaching Staff Unchanged With College All-Star Games Looming
Random thought on this thread title....With the Steelers roster built the way it is, little to no cap room, and only 5 guaranteed draft picks so far I don't think wholesale changes of the coaching staff would be a benefit. I think changing to a more power oriented offense that chews up clock would benefit this team better. The aging OL is not a bad group. If they are failing anywhere due to age it would start in pass protections and playing in space. The last thing an OL loses is the ability to run block and move people. With the stable of bigger bruiser type RBs already here it plays right into that same train of thought. The Steelers still have Ben, JuJu, Johnson, and Wash to be able to continue to threaten downfield just no need to live or die by that. Add in 2 pass catching TEs in Vannett and Gentry maybe letting McDonald walk now is the right move. Banner and Feiler have worked well when used as extra blockers on the line too. With a healthy Conner and Snell power tandem, SAK Samuels can be used more as the utility RB I think he was brought in to be. Maybe the Ben and Randy air raid offense continues but I don't think that is a recipe for success moving forward. A power style clock eating offense paired with our stingy defense would be the easier and more successful road IMO.

I would love someone to justify why Danny Smith is still here? 7 years of shitty special teams and he's still here, I don't get it.

You and me both brother. Should’ve been gone at least 4 years ago...

I'm having a difficult time being able to tell what the difference is between "skill" and "natural talent" is. Can you please explain what you mean?

I would think "skill" implies being able to rely on good technique versus "natural talent" just relies on natural God-given ability.
