So my assumption is that you are not a fan of the Ike Hilliard hire then, because he is an NFL retread that has coached in Washington, Buffalo and Miami. Is this correct?

Kinda sorta. His one redeeming thing is that he is early in the cycle of recycling. He might be great, but I just think this staff needs some fresh blood. It is starting to get kinda echo chambery on offense. Look what Austin did for the defense...maybe...
At least it isn't like the recycling of McAdoo or other just disasters.
Rivera let him go last month when he brought in his WR coach who had been with Rivera at Carolina

OK, good to know. A guy from outside the organization is always something good IMO. I also like the fact that he has some experience with other teams and experience as a NFL WR himself. That way he can mix things that he liked as a player and good ideas from other teams, while also filtering out what he didn't like and what didn't work at other teams.
Its not always recycling garbage, but rather that the new regime has guys they work well with and want to keep that going as opposed to figuring out how to work with a new coach.
Teryl Austin has always had secondary groups that generated turnovers wherever he went. Seattle, Arizona, Detroit. It wasn't surprising to me that the Steelers generated turnovers this past season. If a guy likes to coach a skill or attitude and you let him do that, then it becomes a mindset of the players to perform that skill and have that attitude. It becomes habit forming and I think that is what Austin added to the defense last season.
Hilliard did a nice job with McLaurin. Maybe he had a big impact in his development there?
Glad to see he did help develop some people in Washington that is promising
Maybe he had some impact, but I don't think its much of a shock that 2 of the most impressive WR's at the Senior Bowl last year were Deebo Samuel and Terry McLaurin and they both had solid rookie seasons. Not sure if it was their respective position coaches or the fact that both had great WR skills coming into the league.
Still, I like the Hilliard hire.
