Who would be your draft pick at 32 if you were the steelers?
And if it's a trade down, what would you be willing to accept and how low would you be willing to go?

I 100% expect it will be Porter Jr.
Teams drafting behind Pittsburgh
Arizona
Lions
Colts
Rams
Raiders
All need corners.
I believe they'll move down from #49 to recoup picks and maybe a Dotson trade for a 5th.

Re: Who would be your draft pick at 32 if you were the steelers?
I remember reading draft scenarios where Paris johnson, jones, Darnell wright and Gonzalez, Witherspoon and porter were all off the board at 17 and we had to settle for someone. Now we are getting two of those 6.

Re: Who would be your draft pick at 32 if you were the steelers?
It's hard to imagine them not taking Porter. He's talented, it's a team need, and he's got Black and Gold bloodlines.
That's the trifecta.

Re: Who would be your draft pick at 32 if you were the steelers?
I don't think the steelers want Porter...they didn't have a visit with him

It's very possible. But corner is still a need. If they really don't want him, there are plenty of other secondary players that can help them. They need CB and S.
Brian Branch, Cam Smith, Julius Brents, and a bunch of other quality players are there if they choose.
I don't think they need to meet with Porter. The Porter family is very well known by the team already, and they've seen him play football. I just don't think that matters here. We will see.

A trade down is likely for me

The #Steelers’ phone was already ringing for the No. 32 pick before Round 1 ended, per sources.
Multiple teams made calls to teams at the bottom of the first and were believed to be targeting Kentucky QB Will Levis. Now the bidding is underway for the first pick of Round 2.

Who would be your draft pick at 32 if you were the steelers?
Porter or Smith.
I would trade down a couple spots but I would need Porter Smith or Branch out if that deal.

You would think they have to get one of those players to play in the secondary. If they can trade down and still get one of them they have to consider it.
Of course, if they trade down they may get two of them. Hmmmmmm...:scratchchin:

Re: Who would be your draft pick at 32 if you were the steelers?
Porter or Branch……..
Is there any way the Steelers can leave round two with both?
-
Re: Who would be your draft pick at 32 if you were the steelers?
I am probably in the minority here and would not trade down, seeing it as too risky. This team needs a CB badly and the next handful of teams picking right after the Steelers need one too. Those teams aren't somehow blind to the quality corners remaining that have slid this far.
All it takes is a 3 team run on CB and the best remaining prospects are all gone before the Steelers pick again.
Not worth it for an extra pick on someone in the 4th or 5th that might not even make the team.
Stay and take the guy that you want and consider it a gift from God.

I definitely get that.
I have no problem with them staying where they are and picking. If their guy is there...take him. We just don't know what their board looks like. It may not look anything like we think it does. For all we know, the team may not like Porter, Branch, or Smith at all. Maybe they want Julius Brents and Jaylon Jones or Antonio Johnson and Sydney Brown. If so, they may think they can move back in the draft to get more picks and still get at least one of the players they have rated higher than most, and maybe two.

Re: Who would be your draft pick at 32 if you were the steelers?
Brian Branch or trade down if they have a huge offer would be my top 2 choice
-
Re: Who would be your draft pick at 32 if you were the steelers?
I would try and trade back but I have no desire to go back more than 5 spots and it takes a 4th round pick at min for me to make the move ...
I would want to be in pos to snag one of the guys who were thought of as 1st round worthy who slid all the while recouping a 4th I spent to go up and Get Broderick Jones ...
if I didnt think I could still get one of the 1st round worthy players who slid with the move back then I doubt I make the move ...
we have 1-2 QBs a TE the top Safety and a couple corners who could have easily went round 1 still on the board ,
I personally want pick 32 to turn into Porter or Branch and a 4th round pick , if I cant get the player by moving back just select one of them at 32

I agree with everything you said.
But who can we trade back with only a few spots that is motivated to move up?
Tbh, If they grab Porter or Branch at 32 I will consider this draft a success.
If we can find a good edge later I would consider that to be the icing on the cake. It was scary how our defense changed last year when Watt was out.
-
Re: Who would be your draft pick at 32 if you were the steelers?
In agreement with most of the comments here.
Branch, Porter or Cam Smith
Then LB or DL at 49
-
Re: Who would be your draft pick at 32 if you were the steelers?
If Steelers trade down and porter and branch are taken before the Steelers pick, would you be disappointed. I would be for sure. So don’t trade. Pick Porter.

Seattle perhaps , the Raiders are back 7 but thought to be in the QB running as well and maybe they make a move in a multiple team deal to move up ?
hard to say ...
I would love to come out of this draft with Porter or Branch and be in striking distance to get Dexter or Ika ,,,I would be in my glory if we managed to move DJ and drafted Tillman too but you cant have it all can you ? hmmm
-
Re: Who would be your draft pick at 32 if you were the steelers?
Trade back or Porter/Branch
-
Re: Who would be your draft pick at 32 if you were the steelers?
Don't get too cute with a trade here... that's all I'll say.
Moving back more than 5-6 spots could be risky for a guy you pin hopes still being there.
At 32 you want the projected 1st rounder, Duh.
At the very least, we'll find out how much they really think of Joey Jr.
This is right at the point Tomlin said his value was. (late 1st, early 2nd)

Right. I like CB and Edge but I would not be disappointed with a solid DT or ILB with the next few picks.

agreed , look at how many projected 1st rounders are left and do not trade back to the point that they all could be potentially gone ... limit the move accordingly while trying to maximize the value ...if I have to move back more than 5 spots someone is way way way overpaying or I am not doing it ....
want me to trade back 10 spots then you better be ready to give me your next years 1st along with this years 2nd to do it or I simply wouldn't do it

They didn't have to; they met with him at the end of March and used a Local, they didn't have to use up one of their 30. They don't tend to draft players high that they didn't visit with, but JPJ fits. Not saying they'll draft him. But I don't think the visits thing rules him out in this scenario.

Re: Who would be your draft pick at 32 if you were the steelers?
I believe the Rams are in the market for a QB, we could trade back that far, but risk losing Porter or Branch. It would have to be a good value trade for me. I would just stay put honestly.

Maybe they've been showing zero interest in Porter, and the rest of the league is like.....nobody knows this guy better than the Steelers and they are staying away from him. So they back off of a pick, and the Steelers get him in round two!

Re: Who would be your draft pick at 32 if you were the steelers?
The more I think about going into the 2nd round tonight, I feel the Steelers should just stay at 32 and draft JP Jr. The Steelers need another CB badly, and one who has potential to be able to cover other team's #1 receiver. The Bengals have an excellent set of receivers, and I think even the Ravens now have a formidable looking WR room. Going into the season with Patrick Peterson and Levi Wallace as the team's starters does not give me a warm and fuzzy feeling.

Exactly. The Bengals & Ravens are going to be pretty competitive for a while. This team needs to do something to be able to compete with them and slow down/stop their weapons.
If you have a chance at a top corner that can potentially negate one of their tops players, you need to take that chance. Trading back for a lesser CB so that you can pick up an extra offensive lineman that is probably going to spend most of their time on the bench is a bad move, in my opinion.

Re: Who would be your draft pick at 32 if you were the steelers?
Joey Porter Sr played and coached with the Steelers. Why would they need to spend official visits with Joey Porter Jr.? I’m thinking they have already met and spent some time with him over the years.

they 1000% know him better than ANY other prospect in this draft class and they DID bring him in with local visits that do not count against the 30

JPJ all the way. He allowed only one pass of more than 15 yards last year. One.

A bird in the hand (JPJ) is worth more than two in the tree.

A left tackle in the first who allowed zero sacks last year against SEC competition and had zero holding penalties, and then a CB in the 2nd who only gave up one pass play of over 15 yards in the Big10................sign me up for that!

Re: Who would be your draft pick at 32 if you were the steelers?
I'm sort of feeling that I would like Branch. But the team did not visit with him, and it's not really their MO to pick a player in the early rounds they didn't visit with. I'll be satisfied with JPJ. He doesn't have elite burst and struggles with transitions sometimes... so he's purely an outside corner. Which is fine, we need an elite one. Nice and physical but if he gets occasionally burnt he may have trouble catching up. Well, that's why he fell out of the first round. But he'd still be a good pick for us at this point.
The odd thing is, his metrics say he should have that elite burst but he doesn't translate it onto the field well. It's probably something that can be coached up, but with his hips he's probably always going go be a perimeter guy.

Re: Who would be your draft pick at 32 if you were the steelers?
I love Branch. But I’d still trade back 10 to 20 spots and get more draft picks.

as for as visits - isn’t it true that over the last longest while only half of the Steelers picks chosen have had visits. Pretty sure that’s historical fact.
so way too many are putting undue emphasis on such.

Good assessment. Get the CB that can start right off the bat (JP-jr). Branch seems like more of a run defender - I'd go for the better pass defender.

I think they should just grab Porter. Wheel and deal to get back up and grab Branch if they can. Like Steelerette said. Done deal.
I’m not worried about more players. Sign some cheap free agents if need be.
