Steelers promoting Adrian Klemm to offensive line coach
GERRY DULAC
Pittsburgh Post-Gazette
FEB 1, 2021
The Steelers have decided against hiring a seasoned offensive line coach from outside the organization and instead will promote assistant line coach Adrian Klemm to replace Shaun Sarrett, a team source told the Post-Gazette.
Klemm is the second offensive assistant to be promoted by coach Mike Tomlin, joining offensive coordinator Matt Canada. To date, the only outside candidate to be hired as part of offensive staff shakeup is tight end coach Alfredo Roberts.

Fans won't like this move.

Re: Steelers promoting Adrian Klemm to offensive line coach
I guess I gotta be honest and say I was not excited about Fraley. Too many years with a loser makes a great coach average and an average coach BAD. Too much Lion stink for my taste. Still, I hoped for more from this position. At least we are seeing change and that in itself is a change in Steeler philo. It is super important for ANY employer to make clear that the door swings both ways and it does so for ANY team player!

Re: Steelers promoting Adrian Klemm to offensive line coach
I don't know much about him other than his playing years and the little coaching he has done.
-
Re: Steelers promoting Adrian Klemm to offensive line coach
we promote a guy with basically no pro experience that was the assistant to the guy we fired because the run game sucked.
wtf?

Looks like he has been coaching O line since 2009 (SMU, Kelvin Beachum's O line coach in college and UCLA) to 2016, then in the NFL. Past 2 seasons with Steelers.
I personally thought he would get a look at the position, as he has been coaching O linemen in College and NFL for around 10 years and obviously learned a few things while in the NFL with Patriots and Packers. I'm good with him getting a shot.

Alabama hires former NFL head coaches for OL coach and we hire an assistant to the assistant from within. Hmmm...

Is there another team in the NFL with a more inexpensive staff than the Steelers?

Because you can't be critical of a hire and still root for a team? That's a very sophomoric belief.

Re: Steelers promoting Adrian Klemm to offensive line coach
I was thinking that Klemm would be a candidate, even before Sarrett wasnt extended. I thought he could be a good up and coming O Line coach.
He played in the NFL and was coached by one of the great O line coaches in Dante Scarnecchia. June Jones hired gave him his start in coaching at SMU, where he coached Kelvin Beachum, who was one of the most technically sound rookie O linemen to ever wear B&G. Then Klemm coached some good O linemen and was one of the top recruiters in college at UCLA, before coaching in the NFL where he has been an assistant the last 2 years with the Steelers.
I think its quite possible that the other guys the Steelers interviewed as possible O line coaches were not as impressive as Coach Klemm.

Re: Steelers promoting Adrian Klemm to offensive line coach
I didn't know about Klemm at all but some of the former and current Steelers on the OL back him up. See the tweets from Zach Banner (above) and Ramon Foster.
I don't recall this much "support" for Sarrett so who the hell knows.

I recall Pouncey speaking out in support of Sarrett, maybe there was more.
I never saw O linemen "finishing" blocks in the run game under Sarrett, but rather a lot more of engage a defender and wall him off, then play to before the whistle. That to me looked like an odd scheme and a degree of apathy from the O linemen IMO.
When you see guys that are good at their job, kind of mailing it in and not performing to maximum effort, then sometimes it comes from a belief of the direction from superiors will not result in success. Maybe guys didnt believe in Fichtners offense, maybe they didnt believe in Sarrett's blocking schemes or techniques?? Maybe it was something else? I feel good about the promotion of Klemm as an upgrade from Sarrett.

I would try and mention something to the effect that maybe Klemm is more relatable to the guys that he is coaching, because he played O line in the NFL and has a shared experience with the players...but that isnt a popular viewpoint and nothing that can be quantified.

So far, these players have come out in support of Adrian Klemm:
-Ramon Foster

Report: Steelers hire Chris Morgan as assistant offensive line coach
Posted by Charean Williams on February 5, 2021
The Steelers are hiring Chris Morgan as their assistant offensive line coach, TheAthletic.com reports.
Morgan, who recently was let go by new Falcons’ coach Arthur Smith, also interviewed with the Giants.
He has 12 years experience, six as an offensive line coach and six as an assistant offensive line coach.
Morgan was an original member of Dan Quinn’s coaching staff in Atlanta, and he stayed there through the 2020 season. Pro Football Focus named Morgan offensive line coach of the year in 2015.
He was a big part of the Falcons’ record-breaking offense in 2016.
The Falcons, though, allowed 41, 48 and 42 sacks over the past three seasons.

The Gazette article today made me feel a little better about the hire.
